Broadcast Engineer

New Hampshire Public Radio (NHPR) is seeking a Studio Broadcast Engineer to join our Engineering Team. This hands-on position will provide daily technical support for NHPR's studios, control rooms, broadcast systems and staff end users. The engineer will troubleshoot on-air and studio issues, support computers and audio workstations, perform routine maintenance, assist with installations and upgrades and help keep our broadcast facilities reliable and ready for air.

This position will also assist with NHPR's 14 transmitter and translator sites across New Hampshire, including routine maintenance, troubleshooting, equipment installations, and field work as needed. The ideal candidate is dependable, technically curious, service-oriented, and comfortable working directly with staff in a fast-paced broadcast environment. Occasional evening, weekend, emergency, and statewide travel will be required. This IT/IP-driven role requires a strong knowledge of Windows OS and the aptitude to manage and troubleshoot various broadcast and software systems. Living within a 45-minute commute radius of Concord is optimal.

This is a full-time, exempt, on-site role based in Concord, NH, reporting to the Senior Engineer. The starting salary range for this position is $72,000-$83,000, based on experience. We also consider internal equity, among other factors, when deciding compensation.

• Support operation and maintenance of RF transmission systems, studio equipment, and IP-based distribution.
• Assist with preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair at transmission and studio facilities.
• Provide first-response technical support for on-air and studio issues.
• Collaborate with content and digital teams to support smooth broadcast operations.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to after-hours issues. Ability to travel to the NHPR facility for emergency issues in a timely manner.

• Participate in remote broadcast setup and execution across multiple locations.
• Learn and assist with regulatory record-keeping and FCC compliance.
• Support transmission systems (power, HVAC, security) under direction of the Senior Engineer.
• Maintain equipment documentation and inventory records.

• 1–3 years of broadcast engineering experience, or 2–5 years equivalent technical experience.
• Higher education in broadcast technology, electronics, or a related field is highly valued.
• Understanding of signal flow and audio chains.
• Familiarity with IP networking (basic routing, subnets, DHCP, device configuration).
• Exposure to broadcast equipment such as Comrex, Tieline, Wheatstone, Axia Livewire, Telos, Nautel, or Barix is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
• Valid NH driver's license and ability to safely drive in all conditions.
• Flexibility to work within a 24/7/365 operation.
• Strong interpersonal skills; openness to mentorship and skill development.
