About the team and what we do

The Specialist Casework and Complex Cases Team (SCCT) manages some of the most complex, sensitive and high-profile fitness to practise cases within the organisation. These cases often involve significant stakeholder interest, Public Inquiries, and matters that attract national media attention. The team works closely with colleagues across the organisation, including media and executive functions, to ensure cases are managed proportionately, fairly and with a person-centred approach.

As part of an evolving structure, this newly created role will support a dedicated maternity workstream, helping to ensure that complex maternity-related cases are managed effectively while maintaining the highest standards of public protection, customer care and operational excellence.

Your role and impact

As Specialist Maternity Manager, you will provide operational leadership and oversight of complex and sensitive fitness to practise cases. You will work collaboratively with senior colleagues, lawyers and stakeholders to ensure cases progress efficiently, risks are managed appropriately, and service standards are consistently met.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading the operational management of complex and sensitive fitness to practise cases.
  • Managing team workflow and ensuring cases are progressed proactively and effectively.
  • Acting as an escalation point for complex issues and complaints.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including those with differing interests.
  • Leading stakeholder engagement and supporting case-specific communication plans.
  • Working closely with media colleagues on cases attracting public, media or political interest.
  • Driving continuous improvement through quality assurance, stakeholder feedback and service development initiatives.
  • Providing leadership, coaching and performance management to team members.
This is an opportunity to influence how a specialist area of work is developed and delivered while making a meaningful contribution to public protection and professional regulation.

What you’ll bring

We're looking for an experienced operational leader who can confidently manage complex situations while supporting colleagues and stakeholders with empathy and professionalism.

·Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex or sensitive information clearly, confidently and empathetically.

·Strong planning, organisational and problem-solving abilities.

·Experience prioritising competing demands and working to strict deadlines.

·Sound knowledge of data protection, information governance and confidentiality requirements.

·Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.

Please note that this role requires you to review and work with sensitive and distressing material relating to fitness to practice cases and you will be given the appropriate support to deal with this material.
