Position Summary

To serve as a Speech-Language Pathologist who would be responsible for assessing 2-5 year old children through Child Search.

Serves as a resource to school /early childhood center staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement;

Assists and guides SESS staff in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments;

Serves as a member of the multidisciplinary evaluation team and provides a comprehensive assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing, and language impairments;

Develops compliant speech evaluation reports from assessments conducted. Prepares and disseminates the completed evaluation or speech component within mandated timelines;

Delivers speech and language services in accordance with all federal, state regulations and local policy and procedures;

Provides screening to identify children with speech impairments at regular intervals and at specific levels;

Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialist in the community as appropriate;

Provides appropriate individualized education programs for therapy to meet individual students’ needs and correct existing speech or language impairments;

Develops Web-based IEPs and/or Services Plans for assigned students and serves as a member of the evaluation team to develop data-based present levels of academic achievement and functional performance, and measurable goals and objectives;

Provides information, support, and counseling to agencies and families when appropriate;

Keeps abreast of assistive technology strategies and is able to implement appropriate strategies to enhance student language acquisition;

Produces in-service education and serve as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech impairment;

Keeps and timely submits compliant records of the assigned student caseload;

Completes all required reports both local and state; and

Performs other duties as required.

Master’s Degree required;

A valid Speech License and Teaching certificate in Speech Pathology are required; and

Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate;

Early Childhood Experience

Must possess basic computer skills and demonstrate the ability to use various types of software programs;

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to special education;

Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills;

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and

Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and outside agencies.

- Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) part of the workday;

- Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements rarely;

- Normal setting for this job is an office/school setting.

Performance Evaluation

The employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS/LEADS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS/LEADS to ensure renewal of certification.
