Position Summary
The Facility Maintenance Technician’s responsibility is to ensure the safe, functional, and well-maintained operation of all school facilities. This includes conducting routine inspections, performing preventive maintenance, and addressing repairs promptly to create a conducive learning environment for students and a safe workplace for staff. 
  • Conducts regular inspections of school facilities to identify and address maintenance needs related to HVAC systems, lighting, plumbing, electrical systems, and general building structures; 
  • Diagnoses and repairs malfunctions in various school facilities, including classrooms, administrative offices, gymnasiums, and outdoor areas; 
  • Responds promptly to emergency maintenance situations, such as power outages, equipment failures, or other critical incidents, to minimize disruption to daily school activities; 
  • Ensures the safety and cleanliness of outdoor areas, including playgrounds and sports fields; 
  • Coordinates with school administrators, teachers, and other staff to address maintenance concerns and schedule repairs in a way that minimizes disruption to academic activities; 
  • Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment inventory. Reports and documents any major issues or necessary upgrades; 
  • Adheres to safety regulations and guidelines, conducting regular safety inspections and implementing corrective actions as needed; 
  • Works with external contractors and service providers for specialized maintenance tasks or major repairs. Ensures compliance with contractual agreements and quality standards; 
  • Develops and implement preventive maintenance programs for school facilities to extend the lifespan of equipment and minimize unexpected issues; 
  • Opens school building daily; 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required 
  • At least 5 years of experience required; school or university facility preferred 
  • CMRT or other maintenance certification preferred
  • Strong attention to detail; 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; 
  • Adjusts quickly to changing priorities and conditions; 
  • Proactive; 
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships staff.

    - Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) part of the workday; 
    - Required to exert physical effort in handling objects more than 30 pounds rarely; 
    - Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals) rarely; 
    - Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements rarely; 
    - Normal setting for this job is an office/school setting.     
     
    Performance Evaluation
    The employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS/LEADS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS/LEADS to ensure renewal of certification.
