Java Engineer

We're looking for a Java Engineer to join our DHA EIDS team, building and maintaining the backend services and integrations that power enterprise health data delivery across the Military Health System.

• →Design and develop backend services and APIs in Java (Java 11/17+) and .NET (ASP.NET Core / .NET 6+)
• →Build and maintain REST APIs and microservices using Spring Boot and ASP.NET Core
• →Work across the full backend stack including business logic, data access, and API integrations
• →Write clean, well-tested code using JUnit, xUnit/NUnit, and test-driven development practices
• →Leverage AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code or Cursor to accelerate delivery while maintaining code quality and security
• →Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices using Git, GitHub Actions, or similar tooling
• →Participate in code reviews, technical design, and Agile ceremonies

• 5+ years of professional software development experience
• Strong Java proficiency with hands-on experience in modern Java and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, JPA/Hibernate)
• .NET development experience including C#, ASP.NET Core, and Web API development
• Proficiency in SQL and relational databases such as MS SQL Server or Oracle
• Experience with unit and integration testing frameworks
• Demonstrated experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor for development tasks
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or AWS is a plus
• Understanding of federal security and compliance requirements is a plus
• Thrives in a remote, collaborative Agile environment and genuinely enjoys working closely with a cross-functional team
• Communicates clearly and openly, whether in a code review or a cross-team planning session
• Performs other related duties as assigned
