RF Engineer

As an RF Engineer, you'll design, develop and optimise the RF solutions at the heart of OQC's quantum computing systems. Combining passive RF and PCB design expertise with microwave simulation, prototyping and hands-on testing, you'll create robust control and readout solutions that enable both cutting-edge R&D and the deployment of commercial quantum computers.

Working within our Advanced Product Development team, you'll take RF solutions from requirements and simulation through prototyping, characterisation and deployment. You'll design RF circuitry, PCBs and packaging, optimise microwave performance and work across hardware teams to ensure solutions integrate successfully into OQC's wider technical stack.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll combine deep RF knowledge with practical design and testing, owning technical decisions and continuously improving the performance of our RF systems.

• Design and develop passive RF/microwave circuitry, PCBs and packaging for quantum control and readout systems.
• Translate engineering requirements into RF designs that deliver the required signal performance while managing electromagnetic interference.
• Simulate, prototype and characterise RF solutions using microwave analysis tools, FEA, electromagnetic (EM) tools and laboratory instrumentation.
• Optimise signal integrity, signal-to-noise performance, filtering and microwave I/O performance through iterative design and testing.
• Analyse test results and independently identify opportunities to improve existing RF designs, components and testing approaches.
• Own RF solutions through technical validation, documentation, supplier engagement and handover into OQC's live quantum computing systems.
• Collaborate across hardware, engineering and supply chain teams, providing RF expertise and supporting technical installations in the UK and internationally.

• Strong practical experience working with RF and microwave technology, ideally in the 4-10 GHz range
• Hands-on experience designing passive RF systems and components, alongside PCB design experience.
• Strong understanding of RF/microwave principles, theory and design techniques.
• Experience designing, simulating, prototyping and testing RF or microwave circuitry and systems,
• Experience using electronic design, FEA, electromagnetic (EM) simulation, and microwave analysis tools.
• Ability to gather technical requirements, translate them into practical designs and clearly communicate design progress and results.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use experimental data to drive design improvements.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Electronics or a related discipline.

• Experience with ANSYS or similar electronic simulation and analysis tools.
• Experience with PCB layout would be advantageous 
• Experience designing RF solutions for cryogenic environments or working with cryogenic components.
• Experience working with analogue/digital converters and DSP.
• Python or similar scripting experience for analysis, automation or testing.
• Experience supporting RF hardware through deployment into live technical systems.
