RATE OF PAY TO START $34.41-$42.15 PER HOUR (D.O.E.)
The Planner I reviews the General Plan, Land Management Code, and other governing documents, and provides information to the public regarding planning applications, zoning, land use regulations, and sign permits. The Planner I reviews building permits and performs site inspections and assists with the review of business license and land use applications for conformance with zoning regulations.
- Reviews building permits and conducts site inspections (25%).
- Reviews business licenses (5%).
- Processes sign permits and administrative permits (20%).
- Processes Conditional Use Permits and Subdivisions/Plats (30%).
- Assists the team with research for code amendments (10%).
- Other duties as assigned or directed (10%).
Requirements
~1 min read- Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, or related field.
- One year of planning experience or a demonstrated equivalent of course work in a related field and internship experience in a planning department or architectural/engineering firm or the equivalent amount of post graduate education.
- 1+ years planning experience in a municipal organization.
- Graduate degree in planning, public administration, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in design review and/or historic district design review/historic preservation.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 20 pounds.
- Work is performed primarily in an office setting.
- Some work is performed in outdoor settings, in all weather conditions including extreme temperatures, when required for site inspections related to planning, building, and land use permits.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus to review building permits and site plans.
- Occasional exposure to stressful situations.
- May require small amounts of travel to and from meetings, trainings, and conferences.
- Regular non-traditional working hours which may include evening and weekend meetings.
