Computer Science Trainer

Prepare Liberian students for a technology-driven world by sharing your computer science expertise.

Liberia continues to face major digital readiness challenges rooted in years of conflict, economic constraints, and limited access to technology. Although some progress has been made, many educators have had few opportunities to develop their skills in computer science, digital tools, and modern information and communication technology (ICT) instruction. As a result, students graduate without the foundational digital skills needed for higher education and today’s workforce. Limited access to devices and unreliable internet connectivity also continue to slow progress. With digital literacy identified as a national priority, the Ministry of Education is working with schools to build teachers’ capacities, modernize ICT instruction, and align classroom practices with national curriculum standards.

As a Computer Science Trainer, you will work with educators to prepare and deliver engaging lessons on the use of common digital tools. Your collaborative efforts will help expand access to high-quality computer science education and support the country’s efforts in fostering a more digitally skilled workforce.

Bachelor's degree in education technology or a relevant field.
AND
Two or more years of teaching experience using digital or e-learning tools.

The Volunteer will serve in either Margibi, Bong, Lofa, Nimba or Grand Gedeh county. They will live in an apartment or house with a separate kitchen, bathroom and sitting area. Housing may have inconsistent running water or electricity. The Volunteer should be prepared for an outdoor latrine and to bathe using a bucket. Limited cell coverage should also be expected in some areas.

Become a more adaptable, innovative educator by expanding your computer science teaching experience.

Form meaningful relationships while learning about Liberia’s history and culture.

Conduct ICT needs assessments to identify opportunities for stronger digital learning.

Model foundational computer skills lessons for teachers to build instructional capacity.

Plan and teach practical computer science lessons.

Coach teachers in implementing activity-based digital literacy and computer science instruction.

Support educators in creating and using simple digital learning materials and low-cost ICT teaching tools.

Reinforce teacher skills in computer lab management, safe technology use, and integration of ICT into lessons.

Develop the school’s computer science initiatives for additional learning opportunities.

You may also work on additional projects that meet the community’s interests and priorities, such as facilitating computer clubs or developing a school library.

After a two-week orientation on topics such as health and safety, you will move to an urban or semi-urban community where you will collaborate with secondary schools to assess the learning needs and develop a work plan in line with the curricula.

Peace Corps/Liberia will equip you with Liberian English language resources and you may work with a tutor who can help you build basic language skills to connect with the community.
