We are looking for a Principal Analytics Consultant with deep expertise in Power BI and a strong working knowledge of Sigma Computing. This is a senior client-facing role for someone who can lead complex analytics initiatives from discovery through delivery, connect technical decisions to business value, and serve as a trusted advisor to executive stakeholders.
The ideal candidate is equally comfortable designing a Power BI semantic model, facilitating a requirements workshop, explaining tradeoffs to a senior client, guiding a consulting team, shaping a proposal, and identifying where AI can improve analytics delivery or the end-user experience.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Own the technical approach for complex Power BI engagements, including discovery, solution design, delivery planning, and implementation.
- Translate business goals into durable analytics architectures, semantic models, metrics, reports, and adoption strategies.
- Define standards for data modeling, report design, performance, security, governance, testing, deployment, and documentation.
- Advise clients on the broader analytics landscape, platform choices, modernization paths, and opportunities to improve decision-making.
- Partner with data engineering, data platform, governance, and client teams to ensure analytics solutions are reliable and production-ready.
- Design and develop enterprise-grade Power BI semantic models, reports, dashboards, and analytical experiences.
- Apply advanced Power Query, DAX, dimensional modeling, star-schema, row-level security, deployment, and workspace-management practices.
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues involving data quality, model design, DAX logic, refreshes, gateways, performance, and report usability.
- Optimize models and reports for scalability, maintainability, accessibility, and a high-quality user experience.
- Lead report rationalization, migration, modernization, and remediation programs, including the conversion of legacy calculations and reporting logic.
- Establish and execute QA, validation, UAT, release, and change-management practices.
- Contribute to Sigma implementations, workbook development, data modeling, dashboard design, migration, testing, and enablement when project needs require it.
- Translate reporting logic and analytical patterns between Power BI and Sigma, identifying differences in calculation behavior, modeling, governance, and user experience.
- Help clients determine when Power BI, Sigma, or a combination of platforms best supports their business and technical requirements.
- Facilitate executive and working sessions, requirements discovery, solution reviews, demonstrations, and stakeholder alignment activities.
- Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences, adapting the level of detail to the audience and decision at hand.
- Manage expectations, surface risks early, provide actionable recommendations, and maintain clear line-of-sight to project outcomes and timelines.
- Partner with project managers and delivery leadership to manage scope, dependencies, milestones, quality, utilization, and transitions.
- Connect project deliverables to measurable business value, adoption, process improvement, and return on investment.
- Use AI-assisted development thoughtfully to accelerate Power BI modeling, DAX and SQL development, documentation, testing, troubleshooting, prototyping, and migration work.
- Apply relevant AI capabilities in the BI ecosystem, such as Power BI Copilot and Sigma AI features, to improve report development and insight consumption.
- Help design AI-enhanced analytics experiences, including natural-language exploration, generated summaries, semantic or metrics-layer experiences, and workflow-oriented solutions.
- Evaluate and prototype agentic workflows, reusable skills, and automation that improve delivery speed, consistency, and quality.
- Validate AI-generated outputs for accuracy, business relevance, security, privacy, bias, and explainability; apply human judgment wherever it is required.
- Follow client and phData requirements for approved tools, data handling, access controls, and responsible use of AI.
- Share practical AI learnings with clients and the internal analytics community.
- Mentor consultants and senior consultants through technical guidance, delivery coaching, feedback, and career development support.
- Lead capability sessions, communities of practice, technical workshops, interview loops, and internal enablement initiatives.
- Create reusable delivery assets, accelerators, templates, standards, and thought leadership that scale across engagements.
- Partner with sales and account teams as a solution architect or sales engineer on discovery calls, proposals, estimates, statements of work, and expansion opportunities.
- Identify opportunities to extend client value through modernization, governance, AI-enabled analytics, and adjacent analytics services.
- Contribute to blogs, webinars, conference sessions, demos, or other content that strengthens phData’s analytics community and market presence.
- 7+ years of experience delivering business intelligence, analytics, data visualization, or analytics consulting solutions.
- 5+ years of hands-on Power BI experience in enterprise or consulting environments.
- Advanced experience with Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service, including semantic modeling, DAX, Power Query, report development, workspace and deployment practices, security, and performance optimization.
- Strong understanding of dimensional modeling, semantic-layer design, data quality, governance, and analytics architecture.
- Experience leading complex projects or workstreams from discovery through implementation, UAT, deployment, and transition to support.
- Demonstrated ability to gather requirements, facilitate workshops, manage stakeholders, and communicate with executive audiences.
- Working knowledge of Sigma Computing, including workbooks, data modeling, dashboard development, or BI migration patterns.
- Strong SQL skills and experience working with cloud data platforms, data warehouses, data marts, or curated analytical datasets.
- Experience with BI modernization, migration, report rationalization, or translating logic across analytics platforms.
- Practical understanding of AI-assisted development, generative AI, or AI-enabled BI capabilities, with a strong commitment to responsible use and human review.
- Ability to balance hands-on technical delivery, strategic thinking, client leadership, mentoring, and multiple priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, structured problem-solving, and a consulting mindset.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and upskilling, with the curiosity to stay current on emerging BI, data, cloud, and AI technologies and apply new capabilities responsibly.
Requirements
~1 min read- Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) or equivalent demonstrated expertise.
- Sigma certification or partner-delivery experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure, Snowflake, dbt, Tabular Editor, ALM Toolkit, DAX Studio, or similar analytics and development tools.
- Experience with Power BI Copilot, Sigma AI features, Snowflake Cortex, AI agents, MCP-enabled workflows, or AI-assisted migration accelerators.
- Experience defining BI governance, operating models, centers of excellence, adoption programs, or self-service analytics standards.
- Experience supporting pre-sales, solution estimation, proposal development, account expansion, or fixed-scope delivery.
- Industry experience in areas such as consumer products, retail, healthcare, life sciences, financial services, manufacturing, or technology.
- Public speaking, technical writing, community participation, or a record of reusable analytics assets.
- Clients receive scalable, trusted, performant Power BI solutions that address real business decisions.
- Engagements are led with strong ownership, predictable delivery, proactive communication, and measurable client value.
- Power BI standards and reusable assets improve quality and consistency across projects.
- Sigma and cross-platform expertise expand the team’s ability to support modernization and migration programs.
