Grow Finish Production Intern

Looking for a hands-on internship in the swine industry? Join PIPESTONE and gain real-world experience working alongside Production Consultants, Veterinarians, and livestock professionals while learning all aspects of wean-to-market production.

Internship will take place between May-August 2027.

What You'll Do:

✅ Assist veterinarians with disease investigations, sample collection, and on-farm assessments
✅ Support swine production teams and livestock caretakers with daily operations and industry expertise
✅ Accompany team members on site visits to evaluate animal care and site management practices
✅ Learn to manage overall pig health, welfare, and production performance
✅ Analyze production data and understand factors impacting success
✅ Build relationships with clients and team members
✅ Help implement strategies that support production, pig flow, marketing, revenue, and cost management goals
✅ Execute PIPESTONE's animal welfare, biosecurity, and safety standards

Internship Projects May Include:

  • Evaluating sprinkler use, water consumption, and pig performance trends
  • Comparing pre-fill inspection results across sites and washing systems
  • Analyzing water flow rates and pressure for feeders and water systems
  • Investigating E. coli outbreaks and recommending intervention strategies
  • Reviewing supplemental water use and herd health trends
  • Comparing loadout methods, genetics, and transportation outcomes
  • Assessing pig marking accuracy and production variability

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in Animal Science or a related field
  • Previous livestock caretaking experience preferred, but other relevant experience will be considered
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Occasional travel required

Work Environment:

  • Agricultural swine environment in a rural area
  • Noise levels may require hearing protection in some areas
  • Must be willing to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently bend, reach, squat, and kneel
  • Occasionally lift, pull, or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds
