Introduction

General Description      

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate medical students in Biology and Medical Microbiology, integrating fundamental biological and microbiological concepts with clinical medicine. Responsibilities include preparing and delivering lectures, laboratory sessions, assessments, curriculum development, student advising, and participating in departmental research, accreditation, and quality assurance activities. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to an integrated, student-centered medical curriculum using active learning and case-based instructional approaches.

Qualifications & Experience (Required)

Minimum Required Education / Experience:

·     A terminal doctoral degree (MD/DO or PhD) in Medical Microbiology, Microbiology, Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology, Genetics, or a closely related discipline. Including the flexibility to teach across multiple disciplines, expertise in the use of technology and active learning instruction.

·         Minimum of three (3) years of relevant teaching experience in medical or health sciences education.

·         Demonstrated research productivity through publications in reputable peer-reviewed international Journals and Conferences.

·         Previous experience teaching in an integrated medical curriculum is highly desirable.

·         Experience in laboratory teaching and practical skills instruction is preferred.

·         Clinical or diagnostic microbiology experience is considered an advantage.

·         Experience with competency-based medical education and integrated curricula is desirable.

·         Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.

·         Demonstrated proficiency in educational technologies and learning management systems.

·         Ability to employ active learning strategies and student-centered instructional methods.

Applicants seeking appointment at the Associate Professor or Full Professor rank must provide documentation demonstrating promotion to the respective academic rank by an accredited academic institution through a documented promotion process.

Duties and Responsibilities

General

·         Prepare for, attend, and actively participate in monthly faculty meetings.

·         Participate in curriculum planning, quality assurance, accreditation, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

·         Participate in faculty development workshops and retreats (which occur periodically throughout the year) as needed.

·         Work on projects within at least one working group such as OSCE case development; communication skills; write-up, oral case presentation and clinical reasoning; professionalism and ethics; mentoring; feedback and evaluation.

·         Serve on departmental and college committees as assigned.

·         Uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and academic integrity.

·         To carry out the duties of the position in accordance with College values and standards and in line with College policies and procedures.

Phase 1: Medical Students

·         Develop learning objectives, teaching materials, laboratory manuals, pre-reading assignments, and assessment tools for Biology and Medical Microbiology courses.

·         Develop clinically relevant case-based learning scenarios integrating microbiology with basic and clinical sciences.

·         Deliver lectures, laboratory sessions, tutorials, and facilitate case-based learning sessions, including three morning sessions per week (UTR) during Year 1 and three afternoon sessions per week during Year 2.

·         Participate in clinical correlations and in horizontal and vertical integration of biological sciences throughout the medical curriculum.

·         Contribute to formative and summative assessments.

·         Routinely model professionalism, ethics, and scientific integrity.

·         Provide academic advising and mentoring to students

·         Participate in orientation activities, social gatherings (some of these may occur during evenings), and other College academic events.

·         Assist with students' Independent Investigative Inquiry questions and attend White Coat Ceremony in the Fall.

Phase 2: Medical Students

·         Provide support, guidance, and mentoring during student’s clinical training.

·         Review student reflections and provide constructive feedback.

·         Participate in interdisciplinary teaching activities where appropriate.

Phase 3: Medical Students

·         Continue mentoring students throughout the clinical years.

·         Review and edit students' personal statements and residency application materials when requested.

·         Provide letters of recommendation where appropriate.

·         Participate in post-Match Party in March and Medical School Graduation in May.

Research

·         Develop and maintain an active research program in an area relevant to Medical Microbiology or Basic Medical Sciences.

·         Publish regularly in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.

·         Seek internal and external research funding.

·         Supervise undergraduate medical student research projects.

·         Foster interdisciplinary and international research collaborations.

·         Contribute to the University's research strategy and scholarly reputation.
