As the Manager, Plant Technical Services, you will provide leadership for a team of highly specialized technical experts responsible for welding, non-destructive examination (NDE), chemistry, vibration and lubrication, metallurgy, and technical analytics. This role brings critical programs together under one organization, creating consistent standards, fleet alignment, stronger governance, and enhanced technical support across PGE's generation fleet.


In this role, you will:

  • Lead and develop a team of technical specialists whose expertise directly supports asset reliability, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
  • Establish consistent practices and standards across PGE's generation facilities, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and code requirements.
  • Partner with operations, maintenance, engineering, and plant leadership to proactively manage technical risks and improve system performance.
  • Leverage data, analytics, and continuous improvement to strengthen maintenance strategies, reduce unplanned downtime, and extend asset life.
  • Serve as a key technical leader, helping build workforce capability, improve knowledge sharing, and strengthen technical decision-making across the fleet.

Responsibilities

  • →Management Manages a team of professional staff specialized in programs for welding, non-destructive examination, metallurgy, boiler chemistry, and lubrication/vibration, ensuring adherence to all industry applicable standards and procedures. Leads strategic and operational planning, aligning key priorities with research efforts to enhance operational performance. Utilizes extensive industry expertise to address complex engineering and business challenges while overseeing program direction, execution, and resource management. Establishes and maintains strong relationships with internal leadership and external industry experts to drive program success and best practices.
  • →Financial Management Monitors and manages expenditures, ensuring that all financial targets are met, and examines any areas where budgets/expenditures vary from plan; assists with the definition and operation of effective financial controls and decision making.
  • →Resourcing Oversees resourcing decisions and planning for team; partners with HR in the definition of jobs, recruitment, evaluation and selection processes.
  • →Professional Development Reviews organizational development needs and training strategies to determine required learning and development outcomes for the team; provides guidance in the creation of development plans; monitors ongoing progress and provides coaching and mentoring and provides feedback; completes annual performance management reviews.

  • Education: Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering or other related field or equivalent experience
  • Experience:  Prefer eight or more years in energy, utilities or related field.

Advanced knowledge of company strategy, policies, practices and philosophy
Advanced knowledge of utility business model, regulatory process and requirements, and pricing and power cost fundamentals
Advanced skills in identifying potentially relevant trends and emerging technologies in the energy sector and forecasting their impact and utility
Advanced knowledge of renewable energy opportunities, technologies, applications and programs.
Advanced knowledge of program/project management principles and methods
Advanced ability in planning, implementing and leading complex projects and/or organizations
Working knowledge of PGE generation operations
Working knowledge of fundamental engineering/economic principles and concepts

Substantial:
Consistent use of logic or scientific thinking to define problems, collect information, establish facts and draw valid conclusions (for example, engineer, HR director, plant manager, etc.).
