Established in 1927, UWA Law School is the fifth oldest Law School in Australia and is Western Australia’s premier Law School. The Law School comprises over fifty scholars engaged in teaching and research in law, socio-legal studies and criminology. Alongside our qualifying law degree – the post-graduate Juris Doctor (JD), the Law School offers three undergraduate majors (Business Law, Law and Society, and Criminology), a Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice, and several Masters courses. Continually evolving to meet current and future challenges, we have a particular focus on the Indigenisation of the curriculum, internationalisation and multi-disciplinarity. Our academic staff have been drawn from top universities around the world and have broad-ranging expertise in delivering quality teaching programs.
Scholars within the Law School are engaged in a diverse range of legal and socio-legal research areas covering public, private, international and domestic law, as well as socio legal and justice studies, and criminology. Our scholars attract competitive research funding and play leading roles in law reform and policy development, both domestically and internationally. Our research projects are focused on producing valuable scholarship with real-world impact through a variety of written outputs (books, journal articles, research reports, and submissions) as well as disseminating information through public lectures, workshops, online and within our taught programs.
About the Role
~1 min read- Contribute to teaching programs, research, research supervision and engagement activities, as appropriate to the level of appointment.
- Teach into the Law School’s JD offerings and may be required to teach into the Law School’s undergraduate majors and masters offerings.
- Add strength to the existing academic team in a range of areas, such as criminal law, corporations’ law, legal interpretation, taxation law, trusts, employment law, ethics, procedure, professional practice, Australian consumer protection law, and mining law.

Lecturer
- Completion of an LLB or a JD, and completion or significant progress towards a PhD in Law or equivalent doctoral qualification in a relevant field. For Lecturer (Level B) positions, other professional qualifications and substantial relevant professional experience may be considered where appropriate.
- Ability to deliver innovative teaching approaches, assessments and materials for units and courses within the JD degree and other units within the Law School’s offerings.
- Ability to conduct excellent scholarly research and publication that is consistent with the broad research aims of the Law School, independently and/or in collaboration with others
- An emerging research profile, relative to opportunity.
- Demonstrated ability to relate well to staff and students at all levels, and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Senior Lecturer
- Completion of an LLB or a JD and a PhD in Law or equivalent doctoral qualification in a relevant field.
- Demonstrated excellence in curricula development and delivery, including innovative teaching approaches, assessment and materials for units and courses.
- Excellence in research at a national and/or international level, with the ability to build sustainable research partnerships and a track record of successful competitive funding applications.
- Ability to mentor junior colleagues and tutors, and successful supervision or co-supervision of HDR, Honours and/or Masters students, relative to opportunity.
- Demonstrated ability to positively contribute to team, school and wider University activities, including strategic planning, program development and public engagements.
Associate Professor
- Completion of an LLB or a JD and a PhD in Law or equivalent doctoral qualification in a relevant field.
- Demonstrated excellence and leadership in curricula development and delivery, including innovative teaching approaches, assessment and materials for units and courses and to leadership.
- An outstanding track record in excellence in research at a national and/or international level evidenced by a series of high-quality peer-reviewed journal articles published in high quality journals and/or other quality academic output such as books and a track record of successful competitive funding applications.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor junior colleagues and tutors, and successfully supervise or co-supervise HDR, Honours and/or Masters students, relative to opportunity.
- Demonstrated leadership in building research partnerships and to positively lead team, school and wider University activities, including strategic planning, program development and public engagements.
