Workshop Foreman

Red Ember recruitment is currently recruiting for a Workshop Foreman for their client in Pinetown. Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of workshop technicians and support staff. Allocate repair, service and maintenance jobs to technicians according to skills, workload and priority. Monitor workshop workflow, job progress and vehicle turnaround times. Provide technical assistance and guidance to technicians on complex repairs and fault diagnosis. Ensure all repairs and services are performed according to technical standards and manufacturer specifications. Inspect completed work and ensure vehicles meet required quality and safety standards before release. Monitor technician productivity, efficiency, labour hours and job completion. Ensure job cards are accurately completed, updated and closed. Monitor work in progress and ensure outstanding jobs are followed up and completed. Liaise with the Parts Department to ensure required parts are available and correctly allocated. Ensure warranty repairs are correctly identified, documented and processed in accordance with procedures. Monitor and reduce repeat repairs, comebacks and quality-related issues. Conduct daily work allocation and technical briefings with workshop personnel. Identify technician training and development requirements and provide on-the-job technical coaching. Ensure workshop tools, equipment and diagnostic systems are correctly used and maintained. Ensure compliance with company health, safety and housekeeping requirements. Report accidents, incidents, unsafe conditions and equipment defects to the Workshop Manager. Assist with technical customer queries and resolution of repair-related complaints. Conduct or coordinate road tests and final quality inspections where required. Ensure vehicles are handled, protected and secured appropriately while in the workshop. Provide the Workshop Manager with accurate reports on workshop productivity, WIP, technical issues and operational performance. Ensure compliance with the company policies, procedures, technical standards and applicable legislation. Requirements Grade 12 / Matric. Qualified Diesel Mechanic with a recognised Diesel Trade Test. Minimum 5 years’ experience in a commercial vehicle / truck workshop environment. Previous experience in a supervisory or foreman capacity. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, drivetrains, braking systems, suspension and vehicle electrical systems. Proven diagnostic and fault-finding ability on heavy commercial vehicles. Competent in the use of vehicle diagnostic equipment and technical information systems. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, service information and wiring diagrams. Computer literate with experience using workshop/job-card systems. Valid Code 14 driver's licence; PDP advantageous/required where applicable. Knowledge of manufacturer warranty and workshop procedures. Knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements. Strong leadership, planning, organisational and communication skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet workshop turnaround requirements.
