You’ll join the Argos Commercial & Digital Buying team, a high‑impact, fast‑paced function at the heart of the Argos proposition. The team is responsible for shaping and delivering customer‑focused, commercially strong ranges across an omnichannel retail environment, balancing customer needs, market dynamics and business targets.

Working closely with Merchandising, Global Sourcing, Product Development, Digital and Marketing, the Buying team plays a critical role in translating category strategy into compelling propositions that drive sales growth, margin delivery and long‑term category value. Collaboration, pace and strong commercial judgement are central to how the team operates.

About the Role

~1 min read

As a Buyer, you’ll take ownership of the end‑to‑end buying process for your product ranges, translating category strategy into clear, commercially robust decisions. You’ll be accountable for delivering against key performance indicators including sales, margin, availability, stock and digital metrics, ensuring your ranges meet both customer expectations and commercial objectives.

On a day‑to‑day basis, you’ll lead range architecture and selection, pricing strategy and supplier negotiations, using market, customer and cost insights to inform decision‑making. You’ll monitor trading and competitor performance, adjusting plans where required to maximise sales, profitability and stock efficiency.

You’ll work in close partnership with Merchandising to align forecasts, budgets and trading plans, and collaborate with Global Sourcing and Product Development to shape sourcing strategies and product roadmaps. You’ll also support and guide Assistant Buyers, helping to prioritise activity and ensure clear, efficient ways of working across the wider team, including with Accenture Managed Services.

You’ll bring strong commercial buying experience within a retail environment and be confident making data‑led decisions at pace. Comfortable operating in a complex, fast‑moving category, you’ll be able to balance short‑term trading needs with longer‑term strategic goals.

You’ll have experience building and managing supplier relationships, leading commercial negotiations and influencing outcomes in line with category objectives. Strong stakeholder management skills are essential, with the ability to work collaboratively across functions and communicate recommendations clearly.

You’ll be pragmatic, resilient and commercially curious, with a clear understanding of what good looks like in a Buyer role and a willingness to take ownership for delivery.

  • Experience executing buying decisions within a commercial retail environment, delivering against sales, margin and availability targets
  • Ability to analyse sales, margin, customer and market data to inform range, pricing and trading decisions
  • Experience managing supplier relationships and leading commercial negotiations to agreed outcomes
  • Ability to balance commercial, customer and operational considerations when making recommendations
  • Experience working cross‑functionally with teams such as Merchandising, Sourcing and Digital to deliver shared commercial objectives
