Sr Tax Associate - RA

As a Sr Tax Associate at H&R Block, you'll build on your first year of tax experience to advise clients with greater independence and growing your expertise. You’ll receive ongoing training, support and competitive hourly pay and incentive plan. This role is in-person and not remote.

• Partner with a dedicated Client Care Specialist who gathers client information, allowing you to focus on reviewing each client's tax situation and delivering a great experience
• Leverage H&R Block's advanced technology to prepare returns while you focus on reviewing results, ensuring accuracy, and providing personalized advice
• Apply the knowledge you built in your first season to handle a broader range of client situations with greater independence
• Translate complexity into clarity — explain tax information and recommendations in a way clients can easily understand
• Identify tax savings opportunities and recommend relevant H&R Block products and services based on client needs
• Begin providing forward-looking guidance — help clients think beyond this year's return and identify ways to improve their financial picture
• Own the accuracy of every return you touch, following IRS regulations and H&R Block standards, and escalate complex notices or audit inquiries as appropriate
• Build lasting client relationships and support office goals through teamwork, collaboration, and a client-first approach

• Successful completion of the H&R Block Income Tax Course or Tax Knowledge Assessment¹
• 1 year of experience as an H&R Block Tax Associate, including preparing individual tax returns
• Must complete continuing education and meet all IRS and applicable state requirements
• Strong communication skills, including explaining tax information clearly and asking questions to understand client needs
• Problem-solving skills, including organizing information and identifying solutions
• Comfort using digital tools and systems, including AI-based tools like Copilot and ChatGPT
• High school diploma / GED / equivalent

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
• Experience in a client-facing or consultative role, such as financial advising, insurance, retail sales, or professional services
• Experience asking questions and recommending solutions based on client needs
• Ability to work 15–35 hours per week, with availability up to 40 hours during peak periods
• Availability to work evenings and weekends during tax season
