Railcar Preparation & Inspection Technician

Road & Rail Services is hiring a dependable, safety-focused Railcar Preparation & Inspection Technician for our Wentzville operation. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys physical, hands-on work and wants to build experience in the logistics and railroad industries.

In this position, you will inspect and prepare railcars before they are used to transport vehicles. Your work will help prevent vehicle damage, identify maintenance concerns, and keep daily rail operations moving safely and efficiently.

This position is performed primarily outdoors and requires working in changing weather conditions. Previous railroad experience is helpful but not required. We are looking for reliable individuals who are willing to learn, follow established procedures, and contribute to a team-oriented workplace.

Your daily responsibilities will include:

Inspecting railcars for damage, excessive wear, defects, and other safety concerns

Preparing railcars to meet company and customer quality requirements

Safely opening, securing, and closing railcar end doors

Removing dirt, debris, and contaminants that could damage vehicles during transportation

Operating backpack blowers, scrapers, and other job-related tools and equipment

Identifying repair needs that can be addressed by Road & Rail Services personnel

Reporting damage, defects, or unsafe conditions to the appropriate supervisor

Maintaining assigned tools and ensuring equipment remains clean and operational

Keeping railcars, work areas, and the surrounding facility clean and organized

Following all company, customer, railroad, and industry safety procedures

Assisting with additional operational duties when requested by management

Successful candidates should have:

A valid state-issued driver's license

A safety-first approach to every assignment

Dependable attendance and consistent punctuality

The ability to follow written and verbal instructions

A willingness to work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and other weather conditions

The ability to remain productive in a fast-paced work environment

Strong attention to detail when inspecting and preparing equipment

A positive attitude and the ability to work well with others

A willingness to learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities
