Hours per week: 36.25
Paid leave: 3 weeks vacation per year

The Indigenous Housing, Success and Retention Specialist advances Indigenous student success by leading SAIT's Indigenous Student Housing Program and developing retention initiatives that foster belonging, wellbeing, and academic achievement.
 
Working collaboratively with Student Services and campus partners, this role delivers culturally grounded, data-informed supports that help Indigenous learners navigate their educational journey while strengthening student persistence and completion outcomes. Through strategic programming, partnership development, and impact evaluation, the Specialist contributes to a coordinated and culturally safe support system for Indigenous students.
 
Please note: This is a temporary full-time position.
  • Lead and oversee the Indigenous Student Housing Program, including student selection, bursary administration, and program delivery aligned with student needs.
  • Develop and implement proactive retention strategies that support Indigenous student persistence, academic success, and program completion.
  • Identify and support students facing academic, financial, housing, or personal challenges through early intervention and coordinated support services.
  • Collaborate with Student Services and campus partners to provide holistic, culturally safe, and student-centered supports.
  • Design and deliver culturally grounded programs and events that foster community, belonging, engagement, and student success.
  • Monitor student engagement and success indicators, evaluate program outcomes, and recommend enhancements to improve retention and completion rates.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships across the institution to align housing supports with broader Indigenous student success initiatives.
  • Collect, analyze, and report on program data, outcomes, and impact for internal stakeholders, funders, and donors.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, continuous improvement, and the development of evidence-based approaches to Indigenous student success.
  • Identify emerging trends and opportunities, and support funding proposals and partnerships through program insights and impact reporting.
  • Minimum
  • Bachelor's degree in Indigenous Studies, Social Sciences, Social Work, or related field
  • 3-5 years experience working with Indigenous Peoples, preferably in an education setting, and demonstrating community involvement
  • Skills
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to design and implement retention-focused programming
  • Data analysis and interpretation to inform programming, decision-making, and student outcomes
  • Program evaluation, outcome measurement, and continuous improvement
  • Impact reporting and data-driven storytelling for internal and external partners
  • Collaboration and partnership-building across Student Services and campus departments
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
  • Knowledge of Indigenous student experiences and culturally responsive practices
  • Project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Sound judgment, professionalism, confidentiality, and cultural humility
  • Proficiency with data management, reporting, and administrative systems
