Safety & Training Coordinator

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Safety & Training Manager to help lead our company-wide safety, training, risk management, and continuous improvement efforts. This is a hands-on leadership role that works closely with branch managers, supervisors, employees, and HeartLand safety leadership to build a strong culture of safety and accountability.

• Coordinate Heartland safety programs, assessments, communications, and initiatives.

• Coordination with each Signature Landscape active Branch Safety Lead.

• Conduct regular safety and Lean inspections at branches, customer locations, and company vehicles.

• Monitor safety assessments and corrective actions to ensure issues are addressed.

• Identify safety trends and work with branches to develop corrective actions.

• Maintain and develop safety policies, procedures, and SOPs.

• Help ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and other applicable safety requirements.

• Coordinate Job Hazard Analyses and Safety Analyses.

• Support the implementation of safety improvements throughout the company.

• Serve as a primary point of contact following employee injuries, vehicle accidents, near misses, property damage, and other significant incidents.

• Help determine appropriate next steps following an incident.

• Coordinate incident documentation, claims reporting, and communication with insurance representatives.

• Support workers' compensation, liability, auto, and third-party claims.

• Coordinate After Action Reviews following significant incidents.

• Identify lessons learned and ensure corrective actions are completed.

• Track incident trends and help branches develop strategies to prevent repeat incidents.

• Reduce the administrative burden on Branch Managers while keeping them appropriately involved in incident follow-up and After Action Reviews.

• Manage training through the company's Learning Management System (LMS).

• Coordinate and monitor completion of required training.

• Develop and deliver training programs focused on safety and operations, including:

  • New employee safety training

  • Vehicle and driver safety training

  • Management and supervisor safety training

  • Annual refresher training

  • Emerging safety issues and trends

• Help distribute weekly safety talks, safety alerts, and other safety materials.

• Develop or source training resources when additional materials are needed.

• Coach and support supervisors, managers, and employees in safety-related practices.

• Support company-wide Lean and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Gather employee feedback and identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, and efficiency.

• Help develop and implement positive safety recognition programs.

• Work with Branch Safety Leads to improve their effectiveness and impact.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to build relationships and influence employees and leaders at all levels.

• Ability to work independently while collaborating with operational leadership.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on commitments.

• Willingness to travel between branches, customer locations, and job sites as needed.

• Bilingual English/Spanish — verbal and written highly preferred.

• Experience in the landscape/green industry.

• Experience in safety, OSHA, DOT, risk management, or compliance.

• Experience in operational supervision or leadership.

• Experience with workers' compensation, liability, or insurance claims.

• Experience conducting incident investigations or After Action Reviews.

• Experience developing or delivering employee training.

• Experience with Lean or continuous improvement programs.

• Experience using an LMS or employee training platform.
