Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and underwrite personal lines and/or commercial residential property risks, including homeowners, and residential commercial exposures.
  • Analyze applications, inspections, third-party data, and loss history to assess risk acceptability.
  • Apply underwriting guidelines, authority levels, and pricing rules consistently.
  • Identify and escalate risks outside of authority or guidelines.
  • Ensure pricing adequacy and adherence to filed rates and forms.
  • Support profitable growth by maintaining disciplined risk selection.
  • Monitor risk characteristics and trends impacting loss experience.
  • Participate in underwriting audits and quality reviews.
  • Ensure underwriting decisions comply with state regulations, filings, and internal controls.
  • Maintain accurate documentation to support audit, regulatory, and SOX requirements.
  • Support responses to regulatory inquiries related to underwriting practices.
  • Communicate underwriting requirements and decisions clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Meet service-level standards for quote turnaround and policy issuance.
  • Maintain underwriting files in accordance with company documentation standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve underwriting workflows and efficiency.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Licensing:

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of a High School diploma and relevant work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in the Property & Casualty Homeowner's insurance industry.
  • 2+ years of underwriting experience in commercial residential property.
  • State underwriting or adjuster licenses, where applicable.

Qualifications/Skills and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of homeowner’s insurance products, rating, and policy forms.
  • Familiarity with underwriting systems, third-party data tools, and inspection reports.
  • Ability to make complex decisions using critical thinking in the assessment and management of risk according to established guidelines and authority.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact on a professional level.
  • Ability and desire to deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan and prioritize effectively.
  • Proficient in MSO/365 applications such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
