Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) is a unique Indigenous Institute, recognized by community, government, and institutions of higher learning as a Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Knowledge. SNP offers postsecondary, secondary, and trades education and training, and maintains formal partnerships with nine publicly funded Ontario universities and colleges while collaborating with six Ontario-based Indigenous-owned and controlled post-secondary institutes.

JOB PURPOSE


Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) is seeking to expand the pool of sessional instructors available to teach within the University Year 1 Consortium program (UP). Sessional instructors are responsible for preparing and delivering lectures, developing course materials and assessments, and evaluating student performance in accordance with program expectations.

 

SNP is committed to providing a high-quality Indigenous teaching and learning experience within the Six Nations of the Grand River community. The program is a one-year, community-based university preparation program offered at SNP in partnership with six leading Ontario universities.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 


Sessional instructors are responsible for:

  • Delivering 12 three-hour lectures
  • Preparing course materials and instructional resources
  • Designing and administering assignments, tests, and final assessments
  • Grading and submitting final course marks
  • Posting materials and assessments to the course webpage
  • Responding to student inquiries and providing academic support
  • Holding regular student office hours
  • Communicating with the Senior Associate Dean or Unit Coordinator
  • Participating in required meetings or training sessions and positively contributing to a community of practice amongst teaching staff and learners

 

 

Duration and Workload

  • 16-week contract, including 12 weeks of instruction
  • 120 total hours per course (approximately 7.5 hours per week)


Weekly expectations include:

  • 3 hours in-class instruction
  • 1 hour student office hours
  • 3.5 hours preparation, grading, meetings/training, and course administration


Candidates must be available weekdays (9:00am – 12:00pm or 1:00pm – 4:00pm).


Salary: $7,020 per course

 

EDUCATIONAL KNOWLEDGE

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • A Master’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education, Indigenous knowledge, language proficiency, and relevant experience
