Position: Take-Off Technician/Estimator
Location: Remote
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $2000-$3000 per month
Our client is a Central Texas-based commercial excavation and site-development contractor specializing in excavation, earthwork, grading, land clearing, underground utilities, demolition, and site preparation. They serve a diverse range of commercial, industrial, residential, and infrastructure projects, with a strong focus on safety, efficiency, quality, and meeting project timelines. About the role:
The Take-off Technician / Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate quantity take-offs and cost estimates for excavation and sitework projects. This role plays a critical part in developing competitive, complete bids by analyzing plans, specifications, and supporting documents.
This position is expected to leverage modern tools, including AI-assisted workflows, to improve speed, accuracy, and consistency. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, resourceful, and comfortable working with incomplete information while making sound, practical assumptions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform accurate quantity take-offs from civil plans, grading plans, and specifications • Develop detailed cost estimates using plans, reports, and historical data • Utilize AI tools to assist with take-offs and document review while validating all outputs • Maintain cost databases and project history for consistency
• Assemble and submit complete bid packages
• Identify scope gaps, conflicts, and cost-saving opportunities
• Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers
• Cross-check work for accuracy using manual and AI-supported methods • Maintain organized documentation of all estimates and assumptions • Provide regular progress updates and flag risks or missing information • Continuously improve workflows, tools, and accuracy
Requirements:
• Remote work capability with a reliable home office setup
• Personal computer and office equipment required
• Ability to work a standard 40-hour week with additional time as needed • Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret construction documents • Ability to make reasonable assumptions when information is incomplete • Willingness to adopt and use AI-assisted tools in daily workflows
• Experience working with CAD files and performing take-offs
• Civil engineering background preferred
• Minimum 3 years of estimating experience
• Experience with Agtek (preferred but not required)
Work Environment:
