We are an online addiction treatment provider delivering life-changing drug and alcohol virtual care. Operating for over a year and a half, we began seeing clients earlier this year to offer crucial group counseling, individual therapy, and in-custody assessments, focusing heavily on supporting justice-involved individuals.
As we expand our impact and secure new insurance partnerships, we are building out our dedicated billing team to free up our clinical staff and keep our operations running seamlessly.
We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly organized Medical Billing Specialist to manage the revenue cycle operations for a major, newly acquired insurance contract. This is a brand-new, high-impact role within our growing organization.
You will handle high-volume data transfer from our Electronic Health Records (EHR) system into our partner insurance portals, verify coverage, and resolve claims issues. The ideal candidate has strong medical billing experience, outstanding data entry accuracy, and the confidence to communicate directly with insurance payers to resolve billing discrepancies.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Process, review, and submit medical claims accurately and timely for our new insurance contracts.
- Monitor claims status, identify rejections, and execute timely payment follow-ups.
- Work to resolve outstanding reimbursement issues, minimizing denials and streamlining the overall revenue cycle.
- Accurately transfer patient, clinical, and billing data from our internal EHR system into partner insurance portals.
- Review all clinical documentation for completeness and accuracy before submission.
- Maintain clean, compliant, and highly organized digital records within our secure databases.
- Directly contact insurance companies via phone and online portals to verify patient eligibility, benefits, and authorization requirements.
- Proactively resolve complex billing disputes and discrepancies with insurance representatives.
- Document all communications, follow-ups, and resolution steps clearly in the patient's billing file.
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality and adhere to all healthcare compliance rules (including HIPAA).
- Utilize secure, managed enterprise tools (such as Island Browser) to handle sensitive financial and clinical data.
Requirements
~1 min read- Experience: 2–5 years of professional experience in medical billing, healthcare administration, or revenue cycle management.
- Systems Familiarity: Proven hands-on experience working with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and insurance billing portals.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal English skills, with the confidence to conduct professional, clear phone calls with US-based insurance companies.
- Technical Skills: Fast, highly accurate data entry skills and proficiency with Google Workspace or Microsoft Office.
- Workspace Independence: Confident working independently in a fully remote environment with a highly secure internet connection.
- Prior experience in behavioral health, mental health, or substance abuse/addiction treatment billing.
- Familiarity with medical coding systems (CPT/ICD-10 codes).
- Experience utilizing secure workspace software like Island Browser.
