The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) Engineer is responsible for leading the design, implementation, optimization, and management of advanced database infrastructures to ensure high availability, data integrity, scalability, and optimal performance. This senior role focuses on strategic leadership, database architecture improvement, automation of database operations, and providing mentorship to the data and platform engineering teams, while also contributing to the overall enhancement of data governance and infrastructure practices.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Automation & Efficiency: Lead the development of advanced scripts and tools to automate database provisioning, patching, backups, and deployments.
- →Monitoring & Performance Tuning: Design sophisticated monitoring solutions, analyze execution plans, and optimize complex queries to ensure maximum system health and performance.
- →Architecture & Scalability: Oversee the management, replication, and sharding strategies of database clusters to ensure scalable and reliable data storage.
- →Incident Response: Lead major database-related incident response activities, diagnosing and resolving critical bottlenecks, locking issues, or data corruption.
- →Disaster Recovery & Continuity: Design, test, and maintain robust high-availability mechanisms, failover plans, and backup/restore policies to ensure business continuity.
- →Security & Compliance: Implement rigorous data protection measures—including encryption, access controls, masking, and auditing—in compliance with security policies and industry standards.
- →Leadership, Mentorship & Collaboration: Provide technical guidance to platform and development teams on data modeling best practices, while driving strategic initiatives and the adoption of new database technologies.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 7+ years of experience in Database Administration, Data Infrastructure Engineering, or related fields.
- Deep understanding of database concepts, normalization, indexing, distributed systems, and modern data architecture.
- Proficiency with multiple database engines (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, MongoDB and other NoSQL solutions), cloud-native database services (AWS RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, GCP Cloud SQL, etc.) and infrastructure-as-code/scripting languages for automation.
- Advanced database problem-solving, query optimization, and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Proven ability to mentor and guide junior engineers and developers in database best practices.
- Strong strategic thinking, architectural vision, and decision-making skills.
- English Level: Intermediate
