Part Time Faculty - Integrated College Skills (ICS)

The adjunct instructor of ICS-1300, Intergrated College Skills, will teach assigned course sections during the Fall and/or Spring semesters of each academic year. This course is required of all full-time, first-time, first-year (FFF) students who did not place into the EN1311- Rhetoric and Compensation course at St. Mary's University. Instructors of the ICS-1300 course will be required for each of the assigned course sections to lead class instruction in person during the scheduled time slot, follow pre-set learning goals and designed curriculum, administer Nelson-Denney assessments, attend weekly instructor group meetings, hold office hours in the Rattler Success Center for student support (can be virtual), and work with peer-led team learning tutors/coaches throughout each semester. The course is scheduled for 16 weeks per semester following the university's course schedule, MWF. Instructors are compensated $3,335 per section.

ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Must attend all required training prior to commencing course instruction.
• Teaching each course section as assigned following the pre-designed curriculum focusing on critical reading, analytical writing, logical reasoning, and other key college skills.
• Monitoring student academic progress throughout the semester including grading assignments, providing academic feedback to students, administering Nelson-Denney assessments as scheduled, and monitoring student PLTL interactions.
• Attend weekly ICS-1300 instructor meetings as scheduled by the ICS Lead Coordinator and/or the Vice-Provost of Student Success and Vocation
• Track and report all student academic progress to the ICS Lead Coordinator.
• Hold a minimum of 5 office hours weekly throughout the semester in the Rattler Success Center, preferably in person but can be held virtually.
• Work collaboratively with other ICS-1300 instructors to create a vibrant, consistent learning environment for all ICS-1300 students.
• Other duties may be assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's degree in English or related field is required.
• Must have minimum two (2) years of academic teaching or teaching support experience.
• Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance.
• Must have valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance; or have a self-reliant source of transportation to conduct business on a daily basis.
• Must have strong interpersonal skills with ability to relate to diverse students and manage conflict.
• Must have the ability to demonstrate intermediate to advanced skills in MS Office/Office 365 (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, and PowerPoint) experience with virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom. In Excel, must have the ability to pull data, assemble spreadsheets, format data & reports. Experience with Banner, EAB Navigate and/or Contact Management System (DegreeWorks), a plus.
• Must have knowledge about generative AI and applications to academic instruction.

• Must be able to organize workflow, coordinate activities, balance simultaneous projects without loss of efficiency in a multi-tasked environment, and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
• Must be flexible in every aspect and able to respond to any situation quickly and adequately.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Working conditions are in an office environment and university campus setting. Must be able to move across the university campus to conduct day to day business.
• While performing this role, the instructor will be regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; and use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment; and occasionally required to lift up to 40 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Frequently communicates with others using approved technological resources; must be able to exchange accurate information through designated systems within a timely manner.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
