On our Tour Director Operations team, this role is responsible for the recruiting, hiring, and onboarding of 50-75 US, Canadian, and International Tauck Directors (TD). Has a deep understanding of the company culture, guests’ expectations, and level of service Tauck provides, as well as the required skillset needed to ensure only qualified candidates join our team. Additional responsibilities include scheduling placement, communication regarding tour assignment and training tours, providing support during training season, and communicating internally with other departments (IT, HR, Operations & TD Ops team) while setting up the new hires for success as they join the company.
MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Co-manage the recruiting and hiring process with Senior R&T Manager to identify, screen, interview and hire qualified candidates.
- Process new hire documentation and prepare cross departmentally with Operations, Human Resources and Information Technology teams to onboard new staff.
- Conduct year-round screenings to keep up with the high volume of new hires required during years of growth.
- Creates and continually updates recruiting spreadsheets to ensure that candidate pool and interviews are properly logged and easily accessed. Manages ongoing communication with qualified candidates to maintain their interest in Tauck and establish rapport when thinking about future needs for additional hires.
- Works with Scheduling Managers to ensure tour coverage worldwide through performance based scheduling process. Includes compliance with immigration regulations, cost analysis for positioning, and multi-tiered plan for TD selection/assignments.
- Works with scheduling and yield to identify the impacts of cancelled tours and added departures to our TD staff.
- Collaborates with team to pair new hire availability with company need to ensure gap coverage is address and sufficient level of backup is maintained to allow for flexibility in scheduling when emergencies arise.
- Closely monitors schedules for TDs hired in the previous season and the current season.
- Identifies areas for cross training opportunities based on company need and new hires skill set and experience
- Oversees, tracks, and manages TD Referral Program with HR.
- Identifies all referrals from within the company and creates reports to track the information for bonus payout purposes.
- Communicates information and updates regarding the bonus program to our TD colleagues.
- Utilizes TD Seminar to update the company regarding new hires and solicit additional TD referrals.
- Supports and participates in development plan with New TD Onboarding Team (New TD Training, on tour training, direct observation, etc.).
- Participates in New TD Training as on-site support and host alongside other members of the Recruiting & New TD Onboarding Team.
- Provides feedback regarding performance levels during onboarding and initial training tours.
- Serves as role model, coach, and mentor when working with newly hired TDs.
- Takes corrective action steps and assists with termination process as needed.
- Attends recruiting conferences, both in the US and internationally, participates on professional panels and serves as a representative for the company in industry settings.
- Works collaboratively with others in the TD Operations Department (TDM, Scheduling, TD Travel, etc.) on team goals and objectives as well as cross departmentally to achieve greater efficiencies and expense/cost management.
- Partners with finance to facilitate TD expense reconciliation inquiries and communication.
- Serves as liaison between staff of TDs and internal departments including Guest Relations, Finance, Information Technology, Reservations, Sales and General Management.
- Researches, develops, and establishes new recruiting channels and relationships in Canada, the US, and Europe.
- Ability to travel on behalf of Tauck and Recruiting and Training team as needed. Approximately 6-12 weeks per year (Recruiting Conferences, Seminar, New TD Training, Office visits, etc.) based on company need & role.
BENEFICIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in year round recruiting
- Experience as a Tour Director with a minimum of 3 years required. Preference will be given to staff with experience across multiple Tauck brands and/or product lines. Candidates without this experience must be willing to travel, complete training, and actively lead live tours as a Tour Director to gain the required experience (preference given to those with prior Tauck TD experience).
- Industry experience (particularly beneficial to have worked for a Tour Operator in the Tour Director/Manager position)
- Understanding of Immigration policies and restrictions with EU and other International destinations requiring visas/work permits, etc.
- High level administrative experience
- High level of detail, strong writing skills, and a contemporary view point necessary.
REPORTS SUPPORTED BY THIS POSITION:
50-75 US, Canadian and International Tour Directors - remote field staff worldwide. New hires are supported by both the Recruiting and New TD Onboarding Team and their Regional TD Manager for their first season with Tauck.
