As an Admissions Counselor, you will play a crucial role in recruiting prospective students, guiding them through program options, and facilitating their admission and enrollment, transition into the institution. Your interpersonal skills, and expertise in student advising, international applications, course selection, credit evaluation, and proficiency in relevant software tools will be vital in ensuring a seamless admissions process.
Responsibilities

- Provide comprehensive information on majors, articulated programs, and pathways.
- Advise prospective students on program suitability and career paths.
- Collaborate with the recruitment team and telemarketing team to ensure prompt and professional handling of leads and inquiries.
- Provide information and address inquiries regarding the enrollment process, both over the phone and in person.
- Ensure timely follow-up and accurate tracking of prospective student information in relevant systems.
- Collaborate collegially with other Student Services departments.
- Develop and execute recruitment strategies to attract new students and achieve enrollment goals set by the University and NYSCAS leadership.
- Assist incoming freshmen in transitioning to university life.
- Adhere to FERPA, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain the highest standards of integrity and honesty when recruiting potential students.
- Assist and triage international applicants through the admissions process.
- Offer guidance on visa requirements, academic equivalencies, and cultural transitions.
- Aid incoming first-year-students in their transition to university life.

- Explain and assist applicants in dealing with other Student Services office (Bursar, Registrar, and Financial Aid) When referral is needed, make sure to personally set up the next steps, and follow up after completed.
- Assist first-year students in first-semester course selection.
- Review students' prior academic records, including high school and/or other post- high school transcripts.
- Evaluate and process transfer credits in accordance with institutional policies.
- Be proficient in explaining all active programs available to incoming students, including various majors and concentrations, pathway programs, and professional programs.
Requirements
~1 min read- Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred).
- Proven experience in student recruitment and advising within an educational institution.
- In-depth knowledge of majors, pathway programs, and general international admissions processes.
- These requirements collectively involve guiding students through their academic journey, ensuring compliance with university standards, and serving as a vital link between students, faculty, and administrative entities.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, multicultural environment.
- Counselors create rapport with students using interpersonal techniques such as active listening, expressions of empathy, demonstrating positive regard and empowerment, providing clear and accurate information, using questioning, challenging, and reflecting techniques, etc. Same day responses to student emails are generally expected. Emails arriving within 15 minutes of the end of the workday may be responded to early on the next business day.
- Customer Relationship Management tools
- Degree Works·Microsoft Office (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Teams, MS Bookings).
- Zoom technology.
- Documentation of daily activities.
- Technical Proficiency & ability to maintain such proficiency in relevant software to stremaline admissions processes.
- Online Application Systems: Ability to navigate and troubleshoot college's online application systems.
- Email and Communication: Ability to correspond via email platforms, address queries, and disseminate updates.
- Virtual Meeting Platforms: Ability to host online sessions, interviews, and campus tours using virtual meeting platforms.
- CRM Software: Ability to manage prospective student data and streamline communication via CRM systems.
- Data Analytics: Understanding and use of analytics tools to track metrics and generate recruitment reports.
- Mobile Technology: Engage students through mobile platforms and apps.
- Document Management: Ability to organize application materials and admission documents using document management systems.
- Collaboration Tools: Ability to coordinate within the admissions team using collaboration and project management tools.
- Scheduling: Use of online tools for open calendar and scheduling of meetings with applicants, leads, etc.
- Technology Adaptation: Stay updated on emerging tools and platforms for effective recruitment.
- As needed.
- This is a 5-day/week on-campus position based at the Times Square location. During enrollment periods Counselors may be reassigned to work at a NYSCAS peripheral site in Brooklyn, Queens, or Staten Island. At the discretion of the director, counselors may be asked to work extended hours or visit and recruit at outside locations.
