Senior Electromechanical Technician

The Senior Electromechanical Technician is responsible for the hands-on assembly, wiring, integration, verification, fault-finding and commissioning of complex industrial machinery, automation systems and robotic equipment, as well as providing practical support during development.

Acting as the workshop technical authority for electrical build and integration activities, the role combines advanced practical capability with technical leadership, problem-solving and continuous improvement whilst supporting less experienced colleagues. Working closely with Mechanical, Electrical, Controls and Software Engineers, the role supports prototype, development and low-volume production systems, often where designs, specifications and documentation are incomplete or evolving.

The successful candidate will apply sound engineering judgement, initiative and experience to progress work safely and effectively, while contributing practical feedback to improve manufacturability, reliability, maintainability and serviceability. This is a predominantly hands-on role, with approximately 70-80% of time spent building, wiring, integrating, testing and troubleshooting equipment.

Key Accountabilities

• Lead complex electromechanical build, integration, testing and in-house commissioning activities for prototype, development and low volume production systems, taking ownership of technical execution and problem resolution.
• Build, assemble, wire and test electromechanical systems, machinery, control panels, harnesses and associated equipment to a consistently high standard.
• Interpreting and work from electrical schematics, wiring schedules, mechanical drawings, bills of materials, build packs and technical specifications, identifying omissions, discrepancies and improvement opportunities where they arise.
• Integrate sensors, actuators, motors, drives, embedded controllers, I/O hardware and communication interfaces in collaboration with the wider engineering team.
• Work effectively in prototype and development environments where drawings, specifications, wiring information or building documentation may be incomplete, evolving or unavailable, applying sound judgement and initiative to safely progress work.

Education, Experience & Knowledge

• Time-served engineering apprenticeship in Electrical, Electromechanical or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Significant practical experience building, wiring, integrating and commissioning industrial machinery, automation equipment, robotic systems or special purpose machinery.
