Our base salary range is $89,500 - $134,000.
Who You Are:
The Allen Institute for AI (Ai2) is looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. You'll own a broad range of accounting functions across multiple entities, from month-end close and general ledger reconciliation to grant accounting and compliance reporting. You bring solid GAAP knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing deadlines without losing accuracy.
You're comfortable working with limited day-to-day direction, communicating clearly with colleagues across the organization, and flagging issues before they become problems.
This is a Temporary role scheduled for 9 months.
The Finance team supports Ai2's mission by maintaining accurate, well-controlled financial operations across a complex nonprofit environment. We work closely with teams across the organization and take pride in doing the fundamentals well.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and bank statements; monitor and resolve book-to-bank differences.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and fixed asset schedule maintenance.
- Assist with managing grant accounting, including allocations, billings, releases, drawdowns, and budget tracking; support grant and year-end audits.
- Prepare compliance reporting for external parties, including city and WA state tax filings.
- Assist with accounts payable, expense allocation, and monthly purchase card reporting, including coding and approval review.
- Prepare reports for management financial analysis and support the yearly indirect cost calculation and 990 preparation.
- Identify process improvement opportunities and work with management to implement them.
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, plus 4+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of GAAP and general ledger accounting.
- Experience with accounting software/systems.
- Ability to communicate professionally with limited supervision, both written and oral.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently.
Preferred
- Experience with Sage Intacct.
- Experience managing and accounting for federal grants.
- Experience working with 501c3 organizations.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel; general MS Office proficiency.
- CPA or comparable certification.
