Primary Learning Specialist Teacher
Job purpose (Overview)

Our primary and middle school faculty is composed of grade-level teams which include a qualified or certified educator, a learning specialist with a special education degree or certificate, and an educational mentee who provides support to the class teacher in all areas of classroom management, small-group instruction and administrative support. This individual must have a strong vocation and interest in pedagogy or Child/Adolescent Development and are currently enrolled in, or in process of pursuing, a tertiary degree or certificate in Education. They are a valued member of the faculty and class community as they enhance the positive development and experience of students in the school.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Consistently demonstrates expertise in special education strategies, particularly Literacy, Numeracy, Executive Functioning and Social-Behavioral support.
- Collaborates within a teaching team to plan and develop strategies and accommodations for student differentiation in alignment with the student’s needs and Individualised Education Plan.
- Communicates empathetically and effectively with parents, students and colleagues with regards to curriculum, student learning and progress during regular meetings and in written correspondence inclusive of reports and progress markers.
- Provide services that include: assessment; individual instruction; small group instruction; co-teaching; support to classroom teachers in planning and developing adaptive programs, development and implementation of Individualised Education Plan (IEP).
Required Qualifications
- Exemplary, native level English-speaking and writing skills
- Bachelor Degree or higher in Special Education, or Bachelor Degree in any subjects with PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), or equivalent SEN qualification.
- Minimum of 2 years learning support experience with demonstrated strong organizational, administrative and interpersonal skills
