Role Overview
This 12-week internship offers a hands-on, rotational experience within MJ's Enterprise Data team, designed for a curious and motivated student interested in software engineering, data, analytics, and technology.
Interns will rotate across the team's three core disciplines: Software Engineering, Data Engineering, and Business Intelligence (BI) Development, contributing to real projects and gaining practical exposure to how modern enterprise applications, data platforms, and analytics solutions are designed, developed, and supported.
Throughout the rotation, interns will work alongside members of each team, gaining experience with software development practices, data engineering and database technologies, and reporting and data visualization. The internship culminates in a capstone project and presentation to MJ associates and leadership, allowing the intern to apply the technical and professional skills developed throughout the summer to a meaningful business problem.

~1 min read- →Participate in a rotational experience across Software Engineering, Data Engineering, and BI Development, with opportunities to:
- →Contribute to software development initiatives and gain exposure to enterprise application development practices and technologies
- →Write and work with SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, analysis, and application needs
- →Support data engineering initiatives, including data processing, integration, and pipeline development
- →Build and enhance Power BI reports and dashboards that support internal stakeholders and clients
- →Use programming and scripting languages such as .NET, Python, or similar technologies to support application development, automation, and data processing
- →Participate in a capstone project that applies technical and analytical skills to solve a real business problem. The project may involve software development, data engineering, process automation, reporting and visualization, or analytics, and will culminate in a presentation to MJ associates and leadership.
- →Contribute to the quality and maintainability of MJ's technology and data solutions through activities such as testing, documentation, data validation, code review, and adherence to established development and data practices.
- →Collaborate with software engineers, data engineers, BI developers, business analysts, and other stakeholders while developing professional skills in problem solving, communication, teamwork, and working within an enterprise technology environment.
Requirements
~1 min read- Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related technical field.
- Junior or senior standing by Summer 2027, or equivalent academic progress.
- By Spring 2027, successful completion of coursework in data structures and algorithms and database design, or equivalent academic or practical experience.
- Coursework or practical exposure to data analysis and/or data visualization.
- Programming experience through coursework, projects, or other practical experience, with exposure to at least one general-purpose programming language. Experience with C#, Java, C++, or another C-like/object-oriented language is preferred.
- Exposure to SQL and relational database concepts.
- Exposure to Python, Power BI, or similar data and analytics technologies is preferred but not required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Curiosity, adaptability, and eagerness to learn new technologies and work across multiple technical disciplines.
