Position Overview
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and providing intervention services to students with communication disorders. This role is essential in supporting students’ academic success and social development through evidence-based speech and language services.
The SLP collaborates with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized programs that address a wide range of communication needs, including speech, language, and related areas.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluation & Assessment
- Conduct speech, language, and hearing screenings
- Administer formal and informal diagnostic assessments
- Gather and review relevant information from records, staff, and families
- Analyze and interpret assessment data to determine student needs
- Develop comprehensive evaluation reports, including recommendations
- Make referrals for audiology and related services as appropriate
IEP Development & Implementation
- Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) using multidisciplinary data
- Establish appropriate goals, accommodations, and service delivery models
- Implement and monitor IEP services to ensure student progress
Instruction & Intervention
- Plan and deliver targeted speech and language interventions aligned with student needs and state standards
- Utilize a variety of evidence-based instructional strategies and techniques
- Adjust interventions based on ongoing student performance and data
- Maintain effective use of time, materials, and service delivery environments
- Foster positive and supportive relationships with students
- Apply current clinical and educational research to practice
Collaboration & Communication
- Provide consultation and guidance to parents, teachers, and staff
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support student outcomes
- Coordinate services with other school-based and related service providers
- Communicate with outside agencies as needed to enhance student services
- Share information regarding speech and language programs and supports
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology preferred
- Certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred
- Valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) license with Special Services endorsement (or ability to obtain)
- Experience working with students in an educational setting preferred
- Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
Preferred Skills & Attributes
- Experience developing and implementing IEPs
- Strong background in assessment and progress monitoring practices
- Knowledge of MTSS frameworks and school-based service delivery
- Ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and staff
- Flexible, student-centered, and solution-oriented approach
