As HR Manager, you will be a champion for our people, helping shape how Thiess North America hires, develops, and supports its workforce during a period of growth and transformation. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who puts people first, thrives in fast-moving environments, and brings strong judgment, accountability, and follow-through to complex organizational challenges.

In this role, you will balance strategy and execution, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders across the business to build practical, scalable, and people-focused solutions. Your work will ensure that as the region and its projects continue to expand, our teams feel supported, empowered, and positioned to succeed.

 

Responsibilities

HR Leadership

  • Collaborate with leadership to develop strategic workforce planning initiatives
  • Lead management initiatives and support business transformation efforts 
  • Provide leadership, direction, coaching, and development of the North America People & Capability Team 
  • Oversee the performance management process and provide managers with appropriate guidance on documentation, coaching, and performance improvement plans 
  • Coach and counsel business leaders on organizational development, leadership effectiveness, and team performance 

HR Planning & Delivery

  • Maintain, improve, and implement an effective People Strategy for North America and ensure responsibilities are planned and coordinated through active participation in the planning process and are monitored for effectiveness 
  • Provide HR input to new work strategy and development 
  • Lead the implementation of HR policies, strategies, systems, standards, and initiatives that support broader business needs and complies with relevant legal, governance demands and ethical standards 
  • Partner with Finance on payroll alignment, headcount planning, and workforce cost reporting 
  • Oversee all applicable compensation, benefits, and recognition programs for union and non-union employees 
  • Own execution of core employee experience and culture programs (onboarding, engagement moments, manager tools/rituals), ensuring consistency and strong adoption 

Risk Management

  • Ensure appropriate management and operational implementation of HR risk management structures, systems, guidance, and processes 
  • Initiate strategies to address risk, specifically relating to any Labor Agreements and Company Regulations and take appropriate action as required 

Employee Relations

  • Ensure that a process is in place to assess and review performance of personnel on a periodic basis 
  • Ensure that performance and conduct concerns are addressed in line with Company and legislative requirement 
  • Build strong working relationships with leadership, management and employees through proactive, thorough, and timely response and resolution to all employee relations concerns 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned 

 

  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred 
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field preferred 
  • 15+ years of progressive HR experience, including leadership responsibility in a complex organizational environment 
  • Deep expertise in employee relations, including conflict resolution, mediation, workplace investigations, and complex issue management 
  • Strong leadership capability with a proven track record of building, developing, and motivating high-performing teams 
  • Exceptional judgment and discretion, with the ability to navigate sensitive situations and make sound, difficult decisions 
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing practical HR programs and systems (e.g., performance management frameworks, manager toolkits) and managing them effectively in day-to-day operations 
  • Strong business acumen and systems thinking, with the ability to translate strategy into practical execution 
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships across all organizational levels 
  • High emotional intelligence and empathy, with a demonstrated ability to build trust and credibility with employees and leaders at all levels of the organization 
  • Strong analytical skillsincluding the ability to collectanalyze, and interpret complex data to inform business decisions and HR strategy 
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including data analysis and visualization in Excel and executive-level presentations in PowerPoint 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, with the ability to apply them in practical workplace situations 
  • Commitment to Thiess’ values of safety, discovery, accountability, respect, and empowerment
  • Valid Driver’s License 
  • Authorization to work lawfully in the USA without sponsorship from Thiess 
  • Must be fluent in the English language

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work is primarily performed in an office environment, with prolonged periods of sitting, typing, and viewing a computer screen
  • May occasionally require standing, walking, or lifting objects weighing up to 25 lbs such as files, laptop equipment, or office supplies
  • Must have adequate vision, hearing, and hand–eye coordination to perform computer and phone-based work effectively
  • Occasional travel to project sites, meetings, or training may be required, which can involve driving or extended periods of sitting
  • When visiting operational sites, the employee must comply with all site safety requirements and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed
  • Must be physically capable of safely performing the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
