As a School-Based Clinical Mental Health Supervisor, you will play a pivotal leadership role in ensuring high-quality, compliant, and effective mental health services for students across Chattanooga area schools while also providing direct clinical services to students who need them most.
This is more than a supervisory position. It is an opportunity to shape clinical practice, mentor emerging clinicians, provide direct therapeutic services, and strengthen school partnerships while helping build a growing, mission-driven organization.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

POSITION SUMMARY
As a School-Based Clinical Mental Health Supervisor, you provide direct therapeutic services to students K-12 while supervising school-based mental health clinicians pursuing or maintaining licensure. You ensure ethical, evidence-based clinical practice, oversee Medicaid-aligned documentation, and sign off on insurance claims for provisionally licensed staff under your supervision.
CLINICAL SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHIP
Provide high-quality clinical supervision to school-based mental health counselors pursuing or maintaining licensure Ensure ethical, evidence-based clinical practice aligned with Tennessee licensure standards and best practices Support clinicians with case consultation, risk assessment, crisis response guidance, and treatment planning Sign off on all insurance claims for individuals under your purview who are not yet fully licensed Model strong clinical judgment and professional boundaries in school settings
DIRECT CLINICAL SERVICES
Conduct trauma-informed intake assessments and develop individualized mental health treatment plans Deliver individual and small group evidence-based therapy: CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, and trauma-focused techniques Assess suicide and self-harm risk, develop safety plans, and respond to mental health crises Facilitate family meetings, caregiver training, and mental health education Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation and treatment progress records Collaborate with school counselors, special education staff, nurses, and community partners Contribute to mental health awareness initiatives and staff training
MEDICAID BILLING OVERSIGHT AND COMPLIANCE
Oversee Medicaid-aligned service delivery and documentation for school-based mental health services Ensure clinicians understand and adhere to insurance-eligible services, medical necessity standards, proper session structure, progress notes, and timely documentation requirements Review clinical documentation to support clean claims, audit readiness, and compliance Partner with Thrive's billing and administrative teams to address denials, corrections, and documentation gaps Provide training and guidance to clinicians on Medicaid and private insurance billing expectations
SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP
Collaborate with school administrators, counselors, and support staff to ensure seamless integration of mental health services Provide consultation and guidance on school-based mental health best practices Support positive, solution-oriented relationships with families and caregivers
TEAM DEVELOPMENT AND CULTURE
Mentor clinicians through reflective supervision, feedback, and professional development Contribute to Thrive's culture of accountability, growth, and mission alignment Support onboarding and training of new mental health staff Partner with Thrive leadership on program development and service expansion in the Chattanooga region
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Active, unrestricted Tennessee licensure: LCSW, LPC-MHSP, LMFT, or Psychologist Must meet Tennessee requirements to provide clinical supervision Minimum 5 years of clinical experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory role Experience working with children and adolescents Familiarity with Medicaid and private insurance billing and documentation requirements Knowledge of child development, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based therapeutic approaches Current CPR and First Aid certification Clear background check and proof of immunization status per district requirements
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
School-based or community mental health experience Experience supervising early-career or provisionally licensed clinicians Training in TF-CBT, DBT, or other evidence-based modalities Experience with crisis intervention and suicide and self-harm assessment Bilingual capability: Spanish, Somali, or Arabic is a meaningful plus Comfort operating in fast-paced, collaborative environments
