Field Services Superintendent
Quick Summary
We have the flexibility to hire at different levels, which may impact the corresponding pay range.
Torus is headquartered in Utah and is expanding manufacturing at our 545,000-square-foot facility in Salt Lake City called GigaOne. We are the world’s first mesh energy infrastructure, uniting communities through resilient, sustainable, and intelligent power. We design, engineer, manufacture, install, and support our systems end-to-end, standing behind them throughout their lifecycle. Torus systems help reduce costs, lower emissions, and protect facilities from outages, while strengthening the security and reliability of the broader utility grid. Torus is committed to American manufacturing, engineering excellence, and building energy systems that last.
Torus has raised over $267 million from investors like Magnetar, Mercado, ICONIQ and Origin Ventures. The investments are helping to accelerate deployment of modular power plants across utilities, data centers, and industrial sectors. This investor confidence reflects the strength of our team, technology as well as the scale of the problem we are solving.
At Torus, you will be part of something larger than a single product or technology. Your work will help build energy infrastructure that supports and strengthens our electrical grid, critical systems, industry, and communities for decades to come. We value accountability, collaboration, and clear thinking. We are looking for people who want to solve hard problems and build things that matter.
About the Role
~1 min readThe Field Services Superintendent is a senior leader within Torus field operations, reporting directly to the Director of Install. This role owns two distinct but complementary missions: elevating the craft quality and consistency of Torus internal field teams, and building the external installer ecosystem that supports Torus product deployment at scale. The right candidate is an experienced journeyman electrician who is as comfortable developing a training curriculum as they are stepping onto a job site to support a team under pressure.
This role launches as a senior individual contributor with broad functional authority across training, craft standards, documentation, and third-party certification. As Torus scales toward its production capacity goals, the Field Training Superintendent is expected to build and lead a dedicated team — including training coordinators, field quality personnel, and certification support staff — to sustain and expand the function. The ideal candidate is someone who can build and run the program themselves today, and lead a team executing it tomorrow.
You are an experienced Journeyman (or Master) Electrician who takes deep pride in the craft and thrives on elevating the quality, safety, and skills of those around you. You are as comfortable rolling up your sleeves on a job site to troubleshoot complex escalations alongside our team leads as you are in a classroom setting training apprentices, authoring installation manuals, or building a third-party certification program from scratch.
Equal parts technical authority, clear communicator, and natural mentor, you serve as the strategic bridge between executive leadership, our internal field teams, and our expanding external installer network. While operating above the daily administrative layer of our team leads, you bring the technical clout and respect needed to set craft standards, guide training priorities, and step in whenever a team needs high-level field support. You are a builder who sees the big picture: you want to own and run the training and certification ecosystem hands-on today, and lead a dedicated team executing it tomorrow.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Develop and own the internal training program for Torus field personnel, including structured onboarding for apprentices and ongoing professional development for journeymen and team leads.
- Establish and document craft standards, installation procedures, and safety protocols for all Torus field work, ensuring consistency across both the South Salt Lake and Springville facilities.
- Identify skill gaps across field teams through direct observation and structured assessment; design and deliver targeted remediation.
- Manage apprentice progression tracking, including milestone evaluations, hours verification, and coordination with applicable apprenticeship programs or licensing bodies.
- Partner with the Director of Field Operations to evaluate team leads and provide candid input on team readiness and individual development paths.
- Serve as a working field resource available to step into any team during difficult troubleshooting scenarios or periods of reduced team lead availability.
- Exercise technical decision-making authority in the field without requiring director approval for scope-appropriate issues.
- Conduct periodic field audits to validate that installations meet Torus standards and identify systemic issues before they become warranty or safety events.
- Act as a technical resource and sounding board for team leads facing novel or ambiguous field conditions.
- Author, maintain, and version-control Torus installation manuals suitable for use by trained third-party installers — not just internal crews.
- Translate engineering intent into clear, field-usable procedures, including step-by-step instructions, torque specifications, wiring diagrams, and safety callouts.
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams to ensure documentation accurately reflects current product configurations and is updated with each product revision.
- Develop supplementary materials including quick-reference cards, checklists, and troubleshooting guides that support consistent third-party execution in the field.
- Design and lead the Torus Certified Installer program from the ground up, including curriculum development, hands-on training curriculum, assessment criteria, and certification standards.
- Coordinate logistics for installer training events, including scheduling, travel arrangements, facility preparation, and materials — managing end-to-end execution for groups traveling to Torus facilities.
- Deliver in-person training sessions for third-party installers, combining classroom instruction with hands-on product experience.
- Develop and administer assessments to certify third-party installers, and maintain records of certifications, renewals, and any field performance issues flagged by the team.
- Build and refine the certification program over time based on installer feedback, field performance data, and product evolution — treating it as a living program, not a one-time build.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for certified installers seeking technical guidance post-training.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
- Journeyman Electrician license (Utah or reciprocal state); Master Electrician license a plus.
- Minimum 8 years of field electrical experience, with at least 3 years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
- Demonstrated experience with energy storage systems, commercial/industrial electrical installations, or utility-scale power systems.
- Proven ability to develop written technical documentation — installation guides, procedures, work instructions — that non-authors can successfully execute in the field.
- Experience training or mentoring apprentices or journeymen in a structured, results-oriented environment.
- Strong verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to small and large groups including external partners.
