Responsibilities

The Regional Youth Programs Manager (Camps, Clubs & Parties) is responsible for overseeing the management, organization, and overall quality of Youth Programs across Touchstone Climbing gyms within their assigned region.

The role has two primary areas of responsibility: regional Youth Programs management and operations, and quality control, training, and continued education across the region.

The Regional Youth Programs Manager reports directly to the Youth Programs Director, who provides overall leadership and oversight for Touchstone Climbing’s Youth Programs.

  • →Oversee Youth Programs (birthday parties, climbing camps, club teams) for your region
  • →Work with gym managers and the Youth Programs Director to interview, hire, onboard, and train new Youth Programs staff in your region. 
  • →Help enforce company policies and ensure code of conduct is being understood and followed amongst coaching staff
  • →Manage team waitlists and rosters for the region and collaborate with Climbing Club coaches to organize tryouts for their gym location.
  • →Stay consistent in communication with club coaches about club team scheduling, roster capacities, membership changes, participant transfers, etc. including but not limited to remote meetings, posting in slack channels, in-person check-ins, and phone calls
  • →Answer customer inquiries in regards to the Club Team program goals and its tryout process
  • →Assist the Youth Programs Director with quality control checks during program practices to ensure consistency throughout the program and that program standards are being met
  • →Assist in managing Youth Program Redpoint (RPHQ) accounts, including: ensuring dues are set correctly, membership status is correct, addressing billing issues in a timely manner, ensuring rosters are accurate and full, tracking attendance, etc. Ask gym manager or Youth Programs Director for help if needed. 
  • →Communicate with gym management to ensure that Youth Programs don't adversely impact their gym, gym users, or staff, and to address any issues in their facility.
  • →Consistent communication with Youth Programs Director on matters relating to training, program development, and quality, incidents occurring at team or involving team climbers.
  • →Create and implement a training curriculum for the Climbing Clubs and Climbing Camps. 
  • →Create (or contribute to) training materials for Club Team (goals sheets, training logs, etc.)     
  • →Collaborate with coaching staff from Climbing Clubs to effectively move climbers through the program, identify candidates for Comp Team, structure curriculum to be consistent across all teams, ensure quality of program at all levels.
  • →Identify climbers on the Climbing camps or Club Teams who are good candidates for the Competitive Team. Working with their coaches and parents to facilitate moving through the team program.
  • →Arrive punctually and be prepared for work. Be consistently available to attend youth programs
  • →Oversee safety of YP climbers during training and manage impact of youth groups on gym members.
  • →Collaborate with competitive team coaches and solicit feedback on program improvements. 
  • →Clean up work areas before leaving the gym. 

Requirements

  • Able to stand for the duration of an entire practice. (3 or more hours)     
  • Able to belay for extended periods of practice as needed.      
  • Ability to effectively and appropriately spot climbers during bouldering activities.     
  • Bending at the waist and neck, sitting, kneeling, lying horizontally, and climbing.                                                     
  • Ability to effectively top-rope and lead belay children of all ages                
  • Ability to teach physical training exercises (e.g. push ups; pull ups; V-ups; etc.) with proper form and regard for safety.  
  • Take and clock regularly scheduled meal breaks.
  • Take appropriate rest breaks.
  • Wear a Team Touchstone coaching shirt or Touchstone logo wear while coaching. 
  • Show up on time and ready to work.   
  • Maintain a presentable and clean appearance.   
  • Adhere to the Touchstone standards for customer service in all interactions with team climbers, parents, and gym members. Be courteous, professional, and non-defensive
    with all gym users and guests. 
  • Adhere to the Touchstone Coaching Code of Conduct in all interactions with team climbers. 
  • Be capable of communicating and teaching children of various ages and skill levels in a fun, engaging, effective, and age-appropriate manner.
  • Ability to observe climbers of all ages and abilities and give constructive, effective feedback on their climbing technique and performance. 
  • Ability to belay (top rope and lead) and in accordance with Touchstone belay standards and with regard for the general safety of the climber. 
  • Communicate clearly and in a timely manner with supervisors and coworkers.         
  • Self-motivated to stay on task during work.
  • Represent Touchstone in a professional and positive manner at all times  
  • Passion for working with children and facilitating their growth as climbers and people.
  • Have a safety-conscious, empathetic, age-appropriate approach to teaching and communication with children.      
  • Ability to teach rock climbing and competition skills to a wide range of ages and ability levels.      
  • Knowledge of USAC competition format and rules.   
  • Maintain a current USAC coaches certification.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with the gym managers. 
  • Make a point of checking in with management each day you are in the gym. Let them know how the team is doing. A good working relationship with a gym manager will make resolving future issues much easier.
    • Communicate clearly what is happening in the gym
      • Make the gym managers aware of any major changes/or team related incidents at the gym.
      • Major safety issues need to be reported to the gym manager
  • Consider and respect their requests for noise and practice locations impacting members. 
  • If their requests are difficult to accommodate, seek the advice of the Head of Youth Programing

$70,304 - $72,000

Regional Club + Camp Coordinator’s individual compensation decisions are associated with one or more of the following: size of the region, number of facilities with programs, number of bouldering only facilities, number of facilities with lower membership volume, experience coaching, number of participants in each program, and/or tenure.
