This role offers significant cross-border exposure and the opportunity to build a long-term career within a growing global financial reporting organization. Gain direct, hands-on exposure to international financial reporting practices through close collaboration with teams in the US, UK, India, Australia and Singapore.
Help shape the adoption of AI tools within a global statutory and regulatory reporting function.
The role is based in Japan and it sits within the International Financial Reporting team of 5 where the team head is located in the United Kingdom with 2 other team members in the United Kingdom and a team member in India. The team reports to the Chief Accounting Officer in the United States who reports to the CFO. This role will also coordinate closely with the Global Treasurer in the United States in the execution of administrative treasury tasks required to be executed locally.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepare financial statements in Japanese and English under Japanese GAAP and other local GAAPs, e.g. Australian Accounting Standards (AASB), Singapore FRS etc.
- Prepare US GAAP vs. local GAAP adjustment entries and other statutory entries
- Coordinate with external auditors and the handling of audit requests as the key contact point
- Prepare and work with service providers on financial records reconciliations
- Serve as a champion in the deployment of artificial intelligence tools to help improve the efficiency, effectiveness and quality in executing day-to-day tasks within the global statutory and regulatory reporting function
- Prepare quarterly and annual financial filings for Asian entities and branches based on reporting regulations from Japan Financial Services Agency (JFSA), Japan Securities Dealers Association (JSDA), Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) etc., as applicable
- Liaise closely with compliance officers in Asia on regulatory financial filings, latest developments and obligations
- Assist in the execution of administrative treasury functions that require local execution, under the supervision of the Global Treasurer and Head of International Tax (i.e. approve/confirm incoming wires and tax payments)
- Assist in certain other administrative functions on an ad hoc basis such as coordinating the stamping of local documents
- Work closely with legal officers in Asia to ensure company secretarial obligations are satisfied
- Collaborate with the International Finance teams in Australia and Singapore on new initiatives and ensure entity readiness
- Assist in finance automation projects relating to Global Statutory and Regulatory reporting
- Understand and interpret current and forthcoming accounting standards to ensure compliance to accounting standards for the legal entities in Asia
- Deal with ad-hoc requests from the Asia business teams relating to the reporting
- Work collaboratively with other teams and departments to explain new financial requirements and develop knowledge sharing
Qualifications
- Certified Accountant with at least three-years experience after obtaining accountancy qualification(minimum six years total work experience)
- Native Japanese speaker and fluent English speaker
- Experience in preparing financial statements and regulatory financial returns
- Experience as an auditor or dealing with audit requests as key contact point
- Problem solving and follow-up skills with the intellectual curiosity to help drive efficiencies using artificial intelligence tools
- Self-starter who takes initiatives and aims at completing deliverables timely
- Desire to build a commercial understanding of the business – not just ‘numbers in boxes’
- Excellent Excel skills
- Good communication skills, both written and oral and a strong team player
Nice to have skills or experience:
- Experience in top tier accounting firms
- Financial services industry experience
- Experience in working with large/complex datasets
- Oracle/ Workiva/ Tableau knowledge
- Capabilities in using AI tools, such as, Claude, ChatGPT
