Responsibilities

The Advanced Practice Provider (APN or PA) in the Section of Urology works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, using advanced clinical skills and knowledge.

Obtains medical histories and performs physical assessments.

Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests.

Prescribes appropriate treatments.

Screens patients.

Facilitates care in collaboration with the surgeons.

Makes referrals to other disciplines as necessary.

May provide both inpatient and outpatient services as needed.

Designs patient education programs that include information required to make informed health care and treatment decisions.

Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family and the organization.

Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient’s plan of care.

Has a deep understanding and response to adverse drug reactions, with special attention to vulnerable populations such as infants, children, pregnant and lactating women, or older adults. Develops and coordinates APP training and professional development activities.

Requirements
~1 min readAn advanced degree (or equivalent, if license received prior to July 1, 2001) from an accredited school/college of nursing or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. (ARC-PA).
Two or more years of clinical experience in a related area of specialty.
Current Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
Current Physician Assistant license/registration in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
Certification from the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) by start date.

Ability to interview and obtain medical information.
Willingness to enter into written collaborative agreement with a collaborating physician upon hire.

Willingness to be privileged and credentialed through UCM Medical Staff Office prior to start date.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently.
