The Principal Murex Functional Engineer serves as the subject matter expert for Front Office, Risk, and Accounting functional architecture within Murex. This role is responsible for driving the design, configuration, and optimization of complex Murex solutions across multiple asset classes, while providing thought leadership and strategic guidance to stakeholders across Trading, Risk, Operations, and Finance.

The Principal Engineer combines deep functional expertise with strong technical capabilities to translate business objectives into scalable Murex solutions, influence platform strategy, and ensure best practices are consistently applied across the development lifecycle. Acting as a senior escalation point, this individual will mentor development teams, lead complex initiatives, and drive continuous improvement across the Murex ecosystem.

  • Act as the senior functional expert and strategic advisor for Front Office, Risk, and Accounting capabilities within Murex.
  • Lead the design, configuration, and implementation of new financial products across Commodities, FX, Interest Rates, and Equity Derivatives.
  • Define and maintain best practices, standards, and governance for Murex configuration and functional development.
  • Architect and enhance simulation views used for P&L, Risk, Stress Testing, and valuation reporting.
  • Design and oversee market data configuration including instruments, indices, curves, volatility surfaces, swap generators, and historical data structures.
  • Lead the development, enhancement, and optimization of pre-trade and post-trade MSL formulas and workflows.
  • Drive resolution of complex production issues impacting Front Office, Risk, Accounting, and Operations functions.
  • Provide expert-level troubleshooting and configuration support for VaR, Stress Testing, and risk management frameworks.
  • Partner with senior business stakeholders to understand strategic requirements, identify opportunities for improvement, and translate business needs into scalable Murex solutions.
  • Lead impact assessments, solution design reviews, and functional architecture discussions for major initiatives.
  • Mentor and guide engineers and analysts, fostering functional knowledge sharing and technical excellence across the team.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for critical business incidents.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of Murex Front Office, Risk, and functional architecture experience.
  • Deep expertise across Murex configuration, solution design, and functional architecture.
  • Strong financial markets knowledge across Commodities, FX, Interest Rates, and Derivatives, including product lifecycle events and risk management concepts.
  • Proven experience leading complex Murex implementations, upgrades, and transformation initiatives.
  • Extensive knowledge of Murex Simulation, Pricing Templates, MSL, Static Data, Market Data, and Risk configuration.
  • Strong understanding of VaR, Stress Testing, P&L explain, sensitivities, and risk analytics.
  • Experience designing scalable enterprise solutions and driving strategic platform improvements.
  • Solid knowledge of Datamart architecture, feeders, extractions, and reporting frameworks.
  • Strong SQL and data analysis skills.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers and leading through technical expertise rather than direct people management alone.
  • Experience with Equities and Prime Brokerage products.
  • Exposure to Murex Accounting and Finance modules.
  • Experience defining enterprise-level Murex architecture and platform roadmaps.
  • Previous experience acting as a Principal, Architect, or Senior Subject Matter Expert within a Murex environment.
  • Professional certifications in Financial Markets, Risk Management, or Murex.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 4 days in office per week
