The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute has an exciting full time opportunity for Manager, Materials Management in Miami, Florida.
The Manager, Materials Management develops supply chain systems and processes across the University’s service platforms, logistics systems, and data platforms and formulates complex, highly scalable, reliable, and sustainable solutions to supply chain problems. Moreover, the incumbent creates vision, roadmap, and goals for University and assigned division(s)’ products and services.


  • Works with staff, senior management, and other departments to plan, build, and launch high quality product experiences.
  • Utilizes internal data, market research, and other marketplace intelligence to ensure alignment of relevant plans and tactics.
  • Manages the product development process from conception through design, build, release, testing, analysis, and iteration.
  • Owns the development and delivery of multi-year strategic plans for assigned products and defines product roll-out strategy.
  • Sets objectives, goals, and performance metrics to measure effectiveness and progress against goals.
  • Analyzes data to optimize performance and focus on the product areas with the highest potential.
  • Designs business process changes necessary to simplify and optimize operations end to end.
  • Recruits, trains, and develops staff talents to improve department operations and efficiency.
  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification or license

Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent experience in hospital supply chain management. 


Minimum 3 years of relevant experience required


- Operational Management: Optimizes day-to-day operations and processes for efficiency and effectiveness.

- Organizational Development: Ability to implement strategies to improve organizational effectiveness, engagement, and manage change.

- Financial Oversight: Knowledge of financial operations and management.

- Team Leadership: Ability to create and maintain a cohesive and productive team environment, build positive working relationships and work collaboratively with others.

- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.

- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey ideas clearly and persuasively.


  • Oversight of daily operations of the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute Materials Management functions including ordering, stocking, receiving, PAR and inventory management of all supply areas. 
  • Collaborate with clinical leaders to identify areas of opportunity in supply management and lead supply optimization initiatives for Bascom Palmer. 
  • Collaborate with Value Analysis, Procurement and clinical department leaders to identify savings opportunities, navigate backorder and supply disruption issues specific to Bascom Palmer in support of patient care needs.
