The University of Miami/UHealth department of Neurology has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Manager, Sponsored Programs to work remotely. The Manager, Sponsored Programs (A) oversees administrative and financial aspects of the Sponsored Programs division. The incumbent operates with the objective of increasing sponsored funding levels and the output of funding proposals, as well as maximizing the use and efficacy of existing research funding dollars. Additionally, the Manager, Sponsored Programs (A) develops and implements policies and methods that are most effective to that end.


  • Reviews all material budget variances with the appropriate senior staff and develops appropriate plans of corrective action.
  • Prepares monthly variance reports for programs’ management and development.
  • Assists in the preparation of grant reports for senior management.
  • Maintains portfolios for private and government grants and funds.
  • Develops and maintains grant allocation systems.
  • Manages monthly overhead and allocation tables and reallocates grant funds based on period reports.
  • Formulates comparative analyses of operating programs by analyzing costs in relation to services performed during previous fiscal years.
  • Creates and oversees budget, making recommendations for budget modifications when appropriate.
  • Approves all disbursement requests for accuracy in coding and availability of funds prior to commitment of funds.
  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.


The incumbent will work with the Research Support Team in the Department of Neurology, providing pre and post award support for federal, state, private, foundation, and industry funded studies.

The Manager, Research Support, works independently and is responsible for research related matters, including but not limited to, review of funding opportunities, submission application, grant budgeting, personnel effort allocation and monitoring, subaward process, service and consulting agreements, expenditure review, reporting, and grant closeout.


  • Manage pre and post award grants, develop complex grant budgets, implement subawards, assist in the development and implementation of material and data use agreements.
  • Maintain working knowledge of university financial systems and grant e-submission systems
  • Maintain knowledge of sponsor/agency regulations, funding terms & conditions
  • Assist in performing clinical study budget feasibility, liaising with service centers, internal and external invoice reconciliation, and monitor personnel allocation
  • Manage and Coordinate effort allocations and certifications with PI and research staff.
  • Track grant expenditures, payments, and industry sponsored clinical trials revenues and expenses
  • Detect and help solve logistical, financial and grant related problems as they arise
  • Work closely with PI, coordinator, department, and central offices in performing activities associated with grant setup and close-out (i.e., requesting award accounts, delivering revised budgets, overseeing the payment of subrecipient invoices, carryover and no-cost extension requests, financial reports, progress reports, etc.)
  • Provide timely financial reporting to the PI(s) and UM Office of Research Administration (ORA)
  • Works with leadership to communicate and assist with relevant research support for Neurology, Fiscal Year planning and reporting, research development, project costs analysis, develop reports, track award metrics.
  • Manage multiple funding with PI and designees, schedule meetings, document planning and timelines, identify needs, provide guidance.
