What We Offer

Providing support to the UNICEF National Response in Italy in information and knowledge management to harmonise data collection, analysis and institutional learning, to strengthen the office’s publications, events, partnerships and external positioning as well as to support communications, partnerships and internal coordination.

Italy continues to be a major entry point for refugees and migrants, facing significant arrivals via the Central Mediterranean and Western Balkan routes. Between 2024 and 2025, migration flows to Italy recorded the arrival of over 50,000 migrants and refugees who reached the country by sea via the Central Mediterranean route. Of these, around 20% were children, including more than 20,000 unaccompanied and separated migrant children. The Central Mediterranean migration route remains among the most dangerous: over the past two years, more than 3,000 people have died or gone missing in the Central Mediterranean, including many children, adolescents and young people. These dynamics remain significant protection concerns that require continued action.

To address these challenges, UNICEF aims to strengthen the capacity of the Italian protection and reception system for all refugee and migrant children, particularly UASC, families, and survivors of gender-based violence.

To achieve this, UNICEF has developed the Refugee and Migrant Response Platform (RMRP) to harmonize data collection and analysis, monitor the quality of the reception system, and track the impact of UNICEF interventions.

Considering the above, this assignment aims at strengthening the office’s knowledge management and communications functions — capturing institutional knowledge and lessons learned, and supporting the coordinated production of communications and visibility products such as the annual report, publications and events. The aim is to reinforce internal coordination, evidence-based advocacy, cooperation with donors in close collaboration with the Italian National Committee and the external positioning of the UNICEF National Response in Italy.
