The Communications Unit of UNDP Indonesia plays a strategic role in advancing the Country Office’s corporate priorities by shaping and amplifying UNDP’s narrative, positioning, and policy voice. It supports strategic engagement with key stakeholders—including government counterparts, development partners, civil society, media, and the general public—by translating programme results, policy insights, and evidence into clear, compelling, and credible communications. Through high quality editorial, digital, and knowledge products, the Unit strengthens UNDP Indonesia’s visibility, thought leadership, advocacy, and accountability, while ensuring alignment with UNDP corporate standards, the Strategic Plan, and national development priorities.
 

Responsibilities

1.    Illustration and Graphic Design
•    Produce high quality illustrations, icons, infographics, visual assets, and simple motion graphics/animated content for reports, publications, presentations, social media, websites, and campaigns.
•    Adapt visual products for multiple formats (print, digital, mobile, and social media platforms).

2.    Support to Communications and Project Reporting
•    Support Country Office and project teams in visualizing results, data, and key messages for donor reporting, knowledge products, and advocacy materials.
•    Translate written briefs, data, and concepts into clear and engaging visual narratives.

3.    Creative Development and Collaboration
•    Work closely with communications colleagues and project teams to develop visual concepts aligned with UNDP branding and communication objectives.
•    Revise and refine designs based on feedback, ensuring quality and consistency.

4.    Branding and Quality Assurance
•    Ensure all visual products comply with UNDP corporate branding and accessibility standards.
•    Maintain and organize visual asset libraries and templates.

5.    Innovation and Continuous Improvement
•    Stay informed of visual communication trends, illustration techniques, and digital tools relevant to development communications.
•    Propose creative approaches to improve visual storytelling across CO and project outputs.

6.    Supports knowledge building and knowledge sharing focusing on achievement of the following results:
•    Synthesis of lessons learned and best practices from the project to further build capacity for the team.
•    Contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice.

The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization 
 

Institutional Arrangement

The Illustrator reports directly to the Communications Analyst and works closely with the Country Office Communications Team. The role also liaises with programme and project teams to support visual communication needs for project implementation and reporting.

Requirements

Min. Academic Education    
•    Secondary education is required.  Or
•    A university degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Illustration, Fine Arts, Multimedia, Communication Design, or a related field will be given due consideration, but it is not a requirement.

Min. years of relevant Work experience    
    Minimum 6 years (with secondary education) or 3 years (with bachelor’s degree) of relevant experience as illustrator.
Required skills    
•    Demonstrated ability to work in a team is required. 
•    Experience in the use of computers, office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.)
•    Experience in the use of  industry‑standard design and illustration software (e.g. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, or equivalent digital illustration tools
•    Experience working with tight deadlines in fast paced communications environments.
