About the role

We are looking for a Merchant Underwriter to support the assessment and onboarding of high-risk merchant profiles across acquiring and PayFac models. The role focuses on conducting in-depth due diligence, evaluating merchant business models, and supporting underwriting decisions in line with card scheme requirements, regulatory expectations, and internal risk standards

Experience

2+ years of hands-on experience in merchant underwriting, with exposure to high-risk merchant portfolios

Experience working within an acquirer, PayFac, PSP, or similar payment institution

Good understanding of high-risk business models and associated risk factors

Working knowledge of card schemes standards and legal requirements applicable to high-risk merchants onboarding and ongoing monitoring

Soft Skills

Proactive mindset with the ability to work independently within defined frameworks

Structured and detail-oriented approach to risk assessment and documentation

Ability to clearly articulate risk findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders

Strong collaboration skills and comfort working with cross-functional teams

Responsibilities

Perform end-to-end underwriting and due diligence for high-risk merchant applications

Assess merchant business models, transaction flows, and key risk drivers

Document risk assessments and prepare clear, well-supported underwriting recommendations

Communicate due diligence outcomes, including recommendations on merchant business models and appropriate risk mitigation measures

Manage merchant registration and onboarding processes with card schemes

Collaborate closely with internal cross-functional teams to support merchant onboarding and ongoing monitoring

Engage with payment schemes on underwriting-related topics and inquiries
