Director, Early Head Start

$30.22/Hourly

Bronx, NY 

Exempt

Full Time Position, Five days per week, 40 hours per week, 12 months a year

Responsible for three major functions in the administration of the Early Head Start Program. The first major responsibility involves implementing and supervising all aspects of the center's operations. The second major responsibility involves collaboration with the EHS Director, the Program Managers, the teachers, and center staff to assure compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards and the State Child Care licensing requirements in the operation of the center. The third major responsibility is the implementation of the human resources policies and procedures applicable to center staff. In all major functions a systems approach is desired.

  • You are a personable, energetic, and empathetic leader who can manage multiple staff, managers, and multiple projects in a prioritized manner to meet the goals and objectives of our internal Urban Strategies goals and within compliance of all current Head Start Performance Standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Family and Human Development or equivalent in a related field. 
  • Must have a New York State Teaching Certification in Early Childhood Education.
  • Three plus years’ experience working in an administrative capacity in an education setting with at least three years of supervisory experience. 
  • Experience in Human Resources management and operations and the use of management information systems with Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite. 
  • Experience and/or knowledge of childcare licensing. 
  • Experience in the CACFP guidelines and implementation. 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, ability to meet tight deadlines. 
  • Must have Valid Driver’s License, Personal Vehicle, and Liability Insurance required.
  • Master’s Degree in Education Curriculum & Instruction or Administrator’s Certification. 
  • Five plus years’ experience working in an administrative capacity in an educational setting with five years of supervisory experience. 
  • Significant experience in educational administration, with knowledge and skills in finance and human resources. 
  • Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and Child Care Minimum Standards.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) * 

Responsibilities

Ability to see at normal distance, hear normal conversations and sounds and use hands and fingers to fill out required forms. Ability to lift infants and toddlers weighing up to forty (40) pounds, twenty (20) pounds overhead and forty (40) pounds from waist to shoulder; occasional lifting of fifty (50) pounds is required and must be able to push/pull up to fifty pounds horizontally. Ability to sit on the floor, bend at the waist, kneel and/or stoop 75% of the time.
