Responsibilities:
- Scope Review: Analyze all project documents to accurately define the electrical scope of work.
- Cost Estimation: Perform detailed takeoffs and calculate the accurate costs associated with the electrical scope for each project.
- Drawing Detailing: Provide detailed instructions on drawings regarding the running of temporary power, service, one-line diagrams, and branch circuits.
- Estimate Breakdown: Prepare and review estimates using third-party estimate review platforms, ensuring accuracy and compliance with bid forms.
- Proposal Development: Create comprehensive proposals with detailed descriptions and qualifications for each phase of the electrical work.
- Stakeholder Review: Collaborate with the Owner and Project Manager to review proposals and address any scope-related queries before submission.
- Contract Review: Ensure contracts are accurate and reflect the correct document dates, scope of work, and qualifications.
- Approval and Contracting: Obtain verbal approval, Letters of Intent (LOIs), or contracts for estimated projects.
- KPI Development: Utilize historical data to develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for different project types and apply these metrics to ensure estimate accuracy.
- Third-Party Coordination: Collaborate with third-party estimators during periods of high project load.
- Profitability Focus: Commit to securing profitable work and contribute to long-term growth and backlog planning.
- Management Support: Work closely with management and operations teams to provide necessary support and ensure project success.
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience in electrical estimating.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Candidates with a Diploma of Associate Engineer (DAE) in Electrical or Civil Engineering may also be considered, especially if they have significant field experience.
- Certifications: Knowledge of the USA National Electrical Code (NEC) is mandatory.
- Proficient in estimation software, including platforms for labor and materials databases.
- Strong understanding of civil, plumbing, mechanical, architectural, electrical, fire alarm, telecom, and low-voltage system drawings and specifications.
- Skilled in using tools like Bluebeam, Conest, Excel, Word, Dropbox, and Outlook.
Abilities:
- Ability to grow the estimating department in line with company growth.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to build and improve estimating processes.
- Excellent communication skills and a proactive attitude with a strong work ethic.
- Familiarity with project management terminology from the General Contractor (GC) perspective.
- Ability to detail and modify electrical assemblies and understand the risks associated with installation to account for additional labor.
- High situational awareness and optimal time management skills.
