Responsibilities
~1 min readAs a Veterinary Assistant on our Surgery & Anesthesia team, you will work closely with veterinarians and technicians to support surgical procedures and ensure exceptional patient care throughout the perioperative process.
Daily responsibilities may include:
- →Assisting technicians and doctors with surgical and anesthesia procedures
- →Preparing patients for surgery, including patient restraint and surgical prep
- →Monitoring and documenting patient vital signs
- →Assisting with anesthetic induction and recovery
- →Cleaning, preparing, and organizing surgical instruments and equipment
- →Maintaining cleanliness and sterility within the surgical suite
- →Obtaining and preparing samples for diagnostic testing
- →Assisting with radiographs and other diagnostics
- →Properly using and maintaining hospital equipment
- →Providing compassionate nursing support and patient care
As your skills grow and training progresses, you may also learn how to:
- →Perform medical math calculations
- →Assist with anesthesia monitoring
- →Administer medications
- →Place IV catheters and obtain blood samples
- →Provide advanced nursing care to surgical patients
- At least 1 year of veterinary experience preferred
- Interest in surgery and anesthesia patient care
- Ability to take direction and work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Team-oriented mindset with a positive attitude
- Excellent communication skills
- Commitment to building long-term relationships with colleagues and clients
- Honest, dependable, and eager to learn and grow within veterinary medicine
