Our client is a well-capitalized Saudi institution with a significant balance sheet and an active investment and growth agenda. A confidential search is underway to appoint a Chief Investment Officer to lead capital allocation, corporate development, and value creation at group level.

The Chief Investment Officer will own the capital allocation and corporate development agenda. The role is the commercial and analytical engine that supports the Chief Executive Officer and the board on the highest-value strategic decisions the organization makes, where to invest, where to divest, where to partner, and where to acquire.

The Chief Investment Officer is the institutional owner of capital allocation discipline, working in close partnership with the Chief Financial Officer on funding and with the Chief Executive Officer on strategy.

Responsibilities

~2 min read
  • Own the capital allocation framework, including the prioritization, sizing, and sequencing of all material investment decisions.
  • Lead the investment committee process, with the analytical standards, the business case discipline, and the post-investment review rigor expected of a major Saudi institution.
  • Set the return thresholds, the hurdle rates, and the capital discipline that govern every major spend.
  • Build and run the corporate development pipeline, including acquisitions, joint ventures, partnerships, and selective divestments.
  • Lead the full transaction lifecycle, from target identification and valuation through due diligence, structuring, negotiation, integration planning, and value tracking.
  • Develop the institutional view on adjacencies and growth opportunities.
  • Own the analytical framework for the existing portfolio, including performance reviews, rebalancing, and capital reallocation.
  • Partner with the senior leadership on long-term portfolio shape and growth priorities.
  • Own the long-range plan and the multi-year financial model that underpins it, in partnership with the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Drive a structured value creation agenda, with clear initiatives, owners, milestones, and tracked impact.
  • Build the analytical infrastructure, scenario planning, market intelligence, and competitor benchmarking that informs the executive committee and the board.
  • Support the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Financial Officer in board and investor engagements on matters of strategy, capital allocation, and corporate development.
  • Develop the materials, the analysis, and the positioning that present the institution's investment case to relevant stakeholders.
  • Build the relationships, with banks, advisors, family offices, and strategic counterparties, that give the institution access to the right deal flow.

Requirements

~1 min read
  • Fifteen years or more in corporate development, private equity, investment banking, or strategy, with significant operating exposure.
  • Direct experience leading transactions end to end, from origination through integration, at a meaningful size and complexity.
  • A track record of capital allocation decision-making at a level where decisions reach the board.
  • Deep technical strength in valuation, modeling, deal structuring, and capital markets, paired with the commercial maturity to know when the analysis ends and the judgment begins.
  • Strong understanding of the Saudi regulatory environment, including the Capital Market Authority and the Companies Law as they relate to material transactions and disclosures.
  • Ability to operate with the Chief Executive Officer, the board, and external counterparties at an institutional standard.
  • Discipline to say no to value-destroying ideas, however senior the sponsor, and to defend that position with evidence.
  • Analytical, structured, and intellectually independent. Operates as an institutional voice, not as a personal opinion.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, engineering, or a related discipline. Master's degree, MBA, CFA, or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • Arabic language is an advantage. English is required.
