Warren Wilson College welcomes applicants for a faculty position in Developmental Psychology. This is an Assistant Professor position in an extended contract system with a 24 credit teaching load (typically a 3-3 class load) beginning in August of 2027. On Warren Wilson's extended contract system, after an initial 3 year period of annual reviews, faculty receive extended-term contracts that provide for continuing appointment, and are linked to academic rank review and promotion.
We seek candidates with a background in developmental psychology who are strongly committed to teaching, mentoring, and student-engaged research in an undergraduate liberal arts environment that prioritizes experiential learning.
Applicants must be able to offer courses in Introduction to Psychology, Developmental Psychology (for example: Infant & Child Development, Adolescence & Emerging Adulthood), Research Methods, and upper level courses in their speciality. As part of their regular teaching load, all faculty also supervise senior capstone projects involving research and practicum placements. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to collaborate on study-away courses, first-year seminars, and community-based projects.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Teach 24 credit hours (i.e., 3-3 course load) of undergraduate instruction per academic year.
- →Provide academic and career advising to students.
- →Contribute to the college’s General Education Program, as determined to be appropriate in consultation with the Department Chair.
- →Provide service to the Department and the College.
- →Engage in ongoing professional development and scholarly activity.
- →Maintain and develop partnerships (e.g., schools, non-profits) to support community engaged learning in the developmental course sequence, internships, and capstone research.
Requirements
~1 min read- Ph.D. in Psychology or related field. ABD will be considered;
- Experience teaching psychology at the college level, or equivalent;
- Demonstrated experience with advancing a learning environment that is conducive to all students. For instance, experience incorporating inclusive teaching modalities, course content, and subject matter experts, and working with diverse student populations.
- Two or more years of demonstrated teaching excellence at the undergraduate level;
- Evidence of a pedagogical approach that prioritizes experiential and applied learning;
- Ability to contribute to and support a collegewide initiative toward an interdisciplinary Health Science major.
