Therapeutic Recreation Specialist - Full Time

Join Wasatch Behavioral Health as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (TRS) and make a meaningful impact by helping individuals build skills, improve quality of life, and work toward recovery through therapeutic recreation. This position offers a competitive wage of $23.58–$29.88/hour and provides the opportunity to work with children, adolescents, and adults across residential, crisis, and outpatient settings. As a TRS, you'll conduct assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, facilitate therapeutic activities, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary treatment team to support each client's unique goals. Compensation: $23.58–$29.88 DOE and Education

What You'll Do as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist

• Conduct therapeutic recreation assessments and identify client strengths, needs, and treatment goals.
• Develop and implement individualized recreation therapy treatment plans.
• Facilitate engaging therapeutic recreation activities in both group and individual settings.
• Document services, client progress, and interventions accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Evaluate client progress and adjust therapeutic interventions as needed.
• Collaborate with therapists, case managers, medical providers, and other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
• Provide therapeutic recreation services across residential, crisis, and outpatient settings.
• Promote a safe, inclusive, and therapeutic environment while following ethical and professional standards.
• Supervise TRTs, interns, or other TRSs as assigned.
• Travel to agency clinics and treatment facilities as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, or an approved related field; a graduate degree is also acceptable.
• Completion of an approved practicum.
• Current Utah Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (TRS) license.
• Knowledge of recreational therapy principles and the APIE(D) process.
• Understanding of behavioral health conditions and adaptive therapeutic interventions.
• Strong assessment, treatment planning, and group facilitation skills.
• Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and clinical documentation.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and crisis response skills.
• Ability to work effectively with children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of treatment settings.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to participate in recreational activities and perform physical tasks such as walking, standing, and lifting.
